Advice for Provincetown bikes

We're probably going to stay on the Truro/Ptown border in October, and are looking to bike in and out of Ptown while we're there instead of driving since it's only 2.5 miles. Thoughts on which bikes to bring, mountain or road, would be appreciated, since we're not sure what the condition of 6A is, how sandy it gets, etc. Thanks!

P.S. We can only bring two!

I've ridden down 6a into P'town on 700/35's fully loaded and was ok. In town the roads were pretty good.
You'll never know which way the sand near the dune will go. either bike should be ok.

Cool, that's good to know. We're both running 28mm so they're just a little skinny, but I'm not sure we'd want to switch them out for this trip, and my road bike is definitely more suited to the trip (with fenders and rack) than the barebones mountain bike. Decisions, decisions.

Road bike might extend your range a bit if you wanted to explore the area. Either way, you'll be fine

I rode up to Provincetown from Brewster a couple of times this week - both times with road bikes, once with 28mm tires and once with 23's. No issues.
