VT 400k, June 30

All, the VT 400k is June 30.
I'll be out this weekend checking a few road construction issues - if there are no issues our route will be the same as last year.

If you have pre-registered by paper, please do get in touch off list so I can get a rough head count. If we have a good turnout I plan to run lunch at our ~halfway control - the West Hill Shop in Putney, VT.

Here's the description of the route:

The Vermont 400k begins in Waterbury, VT, the ‘gateway’ to the northern Green Mountains. Riding clockwise we’ll circle the center or our fair state – taking in Montpelier and Randolph on our way to our ‘halfway’ control at the West Hill Shop in Putney, VT. Leaving Putney we’ll follow a short section of the old Boston 600k route to the Dummerston covered bridge and turn north to Grafton and Ludlow. From Ludlow riders follow the scenic VT 100 north through Rochester, Granville Gulf, and Waitsfield before returning to the start.

This route offers rural roads, scenic views, and terrain to test your climbing fitness. Riders should be prepared for limited services on the return leg – rural Vermont offers wonderful roads to ride – and in some places limited places to find creature comforts. After the control in Ludlow, there are no services open past 10pm until the finish.

And where to find more information:

FYI, I rode this last year, completely 'off the couch' as we were expecting our second little one and bike time was very far from the mind. I loved every minute of it (enjoyed almost every minute of it too... with a bit of time to spare) - save the short little climb to the parking area within the last mile. Its a great route, and strings together some of the nicest paved roads in VT...

Here is a blog post I did about it:
