I rode the Coyote Creek Classic to benefit the Santa Clara County Boy Scouts this weekend. It was an easy fifty miles through S. San Jose and Morgan Hill. Weather was nice, I had a base layer along with a s/s jersey, perfect. The only problem was the final five miles.

You see, there were three rides, a 10, 25 and 50. All of the routes converged for the last five miles. This meant the narrow creek trail was really crowded with sometimes young or sometimes inexperianced riders.

I was passing a family with their little grommet in front of the dad by about 10-15 yards. I called out "on your left", passed the father, and watched as the little kid kept riding into the left lane. I continued to slow down as I watch the kid come further and further over. Nothing said by the father at this point. I almost kick the kid in the jaw before he notices me. I was really trying to stay out of his way. I shot the father what was probably a pretty nasty look and went on my way. I felt a little bad about it, but I thought he really should have called out to his kid that I was coming.

Other then the final five miles I had a great time. The start was only a mile from my house and the route was pretty familar to me.

yeah, Saturday starting about 8. I was finishing at around 11:30. I think a lot of people wern't even part of the ride but were out beacuse it was such a nice day. I have never seen so many people on there before.

Saturday night I rode from Menlo Park and over the Dumbarton bridge to Union City BART which I then took to my girlfriend's place in Oakland. It was very nice to cross the bridge at night when there was NO WIND!

Then on Sunday I BARTed into the city to catch the airshow. This was the perfect time to have a bike as Embarcadero was one big parking lot. I headed out to the marina and watched the planes for a while and then crossed the Golden Gate Bridge and took Conzelman out to the headlands.

On my way back I went through the tunnel and north through Sausalito. Did I mention this was the perfect time to be on a bike? Traffic was completely at a standstill and even motorcycles couldn't split lanes since it was just one lane each direction. I passed solid bumper to bumper cars for about 2 1/2 miles before continuing up to Corte Madera to hitch a ride back to Oakland with the gf.

Sunday's ride was 25 miles with about 2900' of climbing but felt like a longer ride since I've barely ridden in the last month.

I did the Old La Honda climb for the first time this past Sunday, then took Skyline to descend via Page Mill (that is a scary descent).

I was going to do the Pope Valley part of the Napa Century, but there was the fire to deal with. We saw the flames from HWY 29 on Friday night. Seriously scary.

So, I did a quick out-n-back on Franz Valley Road out of Calistoga. 20ish miles. It's purdy up there.

Rode with the RBR guys from the VA in Palo Alto to Canada Rd and back. Not an exceptionally long ride but it did the job. Let's just hope it does enough for me for this Sat's Foxy Century!!! Doh!

Although, I probably should have stayed retired from softball and not play two games sunday night after the ride! I am still sore!!

Even though I was sick this past weekend, I just wanted to get out of the house and do a short easy ride on my mtn bike. The Contra Costa Canal trail was the ticket and I rode the full lenght (14 miles) and thru the streets of Concord and Pacheco for a total of 25 flat miles.

Gack, I thought we were the only ones crazy enough to do this ride... I echo sd's assessment of the ride, too. Having done the ride in the past I already knew the start was going to be very dodgy but it actually wasn't so bad getting out to Bailey. Getting back to the trail on the way back was pretty much the pits; I took a decidedly more direct tone with a kid on a green bike and told him where to go. I thought most parents did a creditable job of keeping their broods under control so at least they're making an effort.

As for the ride itself, the downhill run down Uvas past Oak Glen and then the run down Bailey made it worth slogging it out with the once-a-year folks and wind. My friend and I (and our sons) were the only tandems I saw on the entire ride. Hey, RedRider, if you don't want anyone sucking your wheel, come do this ride. Not a single limpet the entire ride!

I was pumping brakes the entire way down ... I think descending is the part of cycling where I have least confidence, especially when it is twisty like pagemill.

I did my ride today from San Mateo, up Crystal Springs and down Canada Rd. I turned around at Woodside. Stop and go traffic everywhere as people were jamming Hwy 92 going to the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival.

I waved to all of them as I zipped-on by.

I did my first group ride- a Breakfast Ride to Esperanza's in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Between riding to the meetup point, the actual ride, and riding back home, I rode about 46 miles (which is the most I've ridden in about 25 years).
