So far, I've been absolutely loving it out here. It's kind of strange to think that at the beginning of the week, I could just BARELY do the completely flat 10-mile round trip ride to and from work, and today I rode around for an extra hour after getting home. I'm absolutely loving it, but I'm still mad at myself for missing the Berkeley Critical Mass. I think I will be until the next one.
Anybody who's interested, Dolores Park is deciding which movies to play this season on April 1st. I know I'm planning to go.

Well, so much for that idea. My bike was stolen last night (before it got dark, even) from my enclosed back yard. If anybody happens to see my bike, please let me know. I'm going to report it as stolen today, but I don't have the serial stamp recorded anywhere. It had a Formula flip-flop rear hub with a freewheel on one side, and nothing on the other. The saddle was an old plastic one, and it only had front brakes (white lever). The crank was an old shim-style Raleigh and the pedals were small, cheap, cast steel.
I really can't afford to buy another bike, so it looks like I'm just going to have to start driving my gas-guzzling car again.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

I really appreciate it. The Sovereign stickers are still on it under the fading yellow paint, that should be a dead giveaway. It's the first Sovereign I've ever seen. I'll be stopping by the Missing Link, Mike's, and the BART parking area (inside the downtown Bart) this evening when I call the police to report it. If anybody has ideas as to where else I should post/report it, please let me know.

Ah, the joys of the Berkeley urban experience. Check Craigslist (yes, some thieves are that stupid). Also, check the infamous Karim Cycle on Telegraph. They have a history of selling stolen bikes.
Thanks though. I don't have a whole lot of hope, but I'm still willing to do whatever legwork I can to try to get my bike back.

Well, that was a quick turn-around. Stopped by all the local shops on my way home, printed up some fliers and put them up, got home, and ... there's my bike... on the other side of our 10' wooden fence... in a gated apartment parking garage, leaning against a wall.
I figured there was a simple way to solve this:
call the building manager, get my bike back. No such luck, visit the building, page the building manager (on one of those numeric keypad things), get her cell number (had to try three times since it was garbled), call, leave a voice mail, wait an hour, call again, give up...
*sigh*... then it's call the Berkeley Police Department, who I'm sure will get back to me sometime tomorrow or possibly later this week, and ... wait, they're already here. Wow. Now my bike is back in my hands?
... gushing relief. Thanks to the Officers who got my bike back, and the nice people who let the officers into the parking area, and a BIG SPECIAL thanks to the thief who was dumb enough to leave it in plain view from my back door. Looks like I'll be posting in the "How was your commute today?" thread tomorrow.

Really glad to hear your bike came home! Maybe it went out for a ride on its own.

Anybody showing up to Critical Mass in Berkeley tomorrow? I've never been to one, so I don't really know what to expect, but I'm looking forward to it.

Hi, I'm not actually new here. I originally signed up as "Owner," which was my generic username for any forum I joined without intention of staying long: cars, home improvement, etc. Since that username really has nothing to do with bikes or with me, and I'm still on BF a year and a half later, I figured I'd choose something more personal. See you on the road!

Hi all, Dan here and I live in Woodland. I'm 53, and just dropped 55+ Lbs, so just getting into road biking and am currently riding a mountain bike that I will make more road than off-road for the time being until I figure out what I need for a road bike. We have a nice LBS in Woodland, and there's tons in Davis, so I have access to stuff, including the Davis Bike Club. Gotta go in for shoulder surgery next month, so that will lay me up for awhile, but I hope to use the wind-trainer and keep going. Hoping to find a group to teach me all I need to know.

Hi forum,
I just moved from SF to Oakland and I'm on the prowl for some people to ride with. I started mountain biking a couple of years ago (mostly on the peninsula) and own a Giant Yukon FX (one heavy S.O.B.!!) Recently purchased a Trek 1.5 9 months ago and quickly got it stolen.
Now I'm riding a Bianchi Cross Veloce (06) and loving every minute of it. Averaging 100 miles a week and constantly looking out the window at work thinking of my ride home.
If you're in the area and want to ride, hit me up

Hello bikeforums I'm Fauxer (my old gaming name) Ty in real life, I'm a student at SFSU. When I'm not eating, sleeping and drinking chemistry I'm on my bianchi in the presidio, or riding my tark bike to zeitgeist to down bloodymarry's. I've been pushing myself solo but I'd like to get into a group ride that has the patience to show a n00b the ropes. From what I have read on the forums cycling is similar to golf (I played varsity) in that it has an unwritten book of ettiquette, and I would like to be aquainted with said book before I enter some cat 5 races, and hopefully go further.
