Dog chases bike, dog hit by truck
THis was in Reedley, CA, about halfway between Fresno & Visalia. From the CHP "incident report" feed (10-code translations in italics):
1182 - Traffic Collision - No Injuries
-- 9:05AM VEH VS DOG
-- 9:05AM DOG IS INJURED
-- 9:05AM NEG 1125 (not a traffic hazard)
-- 9:07AM 1039 TCSO FOR AC (call for animal control)
-- 9:21AM A CITZ CALLED IN, STATES HE WAS RIDING BY ON HIS BICYCLE AND THE DOG WAS CHASING HIM; THEN DOG WAS HIT BY THE TK
-- 9:22AM TK IS NOW GOA, DOG IS THE BACK OF A RESIDENCE, POSS W/ OWNER OF THE DOG ("TK GOA" = truck left the scene before CHP arrival)
Hopefully the owner will learn to keep his dog leashed up or in the yeard.

Four years later, my left leg still has scars where a loose dog attacked me while I was on Zediker Road east of Fresno. Bit holes through the leg warmer. Then it ran off to the house alongside the road, the occupants returned and then denied it was their dog. Waited two hours bleeding by the side of the road for animal control to come take a report and take the dog away. (After all, if it wasn't their dog, they couldn't really fight it being taken away, could they.)
Ugly, nasty territory out there, and it's part of most riders' standard route to the hills.

Ouch. I guess the dog had to be quarantined for rabies observation?
