Groups, teams, rides Silverdale, WA
Just moved out here to Silverdale. Was around Charleston, SC where my bike gathered dust for 18 months due to schedule and crappy roads.
Now that I am in the PNW where cycling is possible due to much better roads and a better schedule, I am trying to find places to ride around Silverdale. Mainly Naval Base Kitsap area. If it is possible to ride to the start of a ride that is best for me.
I also don't want to drive more than an hour to the start of a ride.
Let me know what is around here. I need to get my fat a** back on my bike and get back to what I know I enjoy.
Edit- I guess I should also say I am interested in getting back into racing. I only got like 2-4 under my belt before I left Washington DC and want to get back into that. So right now 17-19mph pace or less would be my speed, but want to get back up to the 20-24mph pace.

Welcome to the PNW! There are some great rides here including your area. Check out West Sound Cycling... https://www.westsoundcycling.com/
There's a guy named Leo who can tell you some routes, group rides, etc. He also lurks on Cascade's site too... https://cascade.org/Home/
For general Washington racing calendar and team links, check out the WSBA site => https://wsbaracing.com/
I can't recall a team in that area but most of the teams are Seattle based. Early racing season is around the corner (March @ Mason Lake and Sequim) so there's plenty of time to get some training in. You can also talk with many of the teams at the races and see if there are openings.

I don't know if it's still there but there used to be a shop on the highway 'tween Silverdale and Poulsbo (east side of road nearer Poulsbo) with some very knowledgable people running it. Is that great bakery still in Poulsbol? I used to live in tukwila and one of my favorite rides was to ride to the ferry, as near the sound as i could, and ferry to Bremerton and ride to Winslow and vice-versa. maybe you could do a reverse ferry to Seattle ride over the hill to Lake Washington and do the trail around it. one of the shops could give your directions but as I recall goin up and over Pike works fine. I used to plan lots of rides from county road maps in the days b4 the 'net- great fun

leo here. West Sound Club is the local club. Some racers. Meet at Silverdale Hotel first wednesday of the month at 7:00pm.
Silverdale Cyclery is the best shop. Dave the owner is a good guy, very customer friendly, he's a cyclist first.
gears to you...leo

Welcome to the PNW. Although I live on Whidbey Island, I visit my parents in Silverdale twice a month and I always bring my bike. Silverdale Cyclery has group rides on Saturdays leaving at 9:00. As far as a list of current teams you can check out the USCF website and the Washington Bicycle Association. West Sound Cycling has a group of stronger riders as well. Stay away from Downtown B-town and Silverdale as far as riding, people are oblivious to cyclist there. Also the begining of Bond road leaving Poulsbo is a death trap, we actually had a cyclist die out there a few years back.

Thanks for the replies. I will use those sites and find some rides to check out. Went for my first ride in a while today, about 45 minutes, not sure of speed or distance as my computer crapped out, but it felt good to be out again. Just went for 3 loops around the Bangor base.
Been doing some spin classes to get back into things as well.
Hope to see some of you out there someday.
