It's time to celebrate George Hincapie!

Wow! Just read on Cycling News that he has equaled the record for Tour de France performances.

This guy is an awesome rider!

Sixteen Tours he's ridden in and nine on a winning team - the man is better than the EverReady Bunny!

Thanks, George, for all the times I've enjoyed your incredible sportsmanship and determination!

Joop did 16. And won one.

But good for Georgie. It's still an impressive feat.

But we all have been told that cycling isn't a team sport. By a real authority.

George's problem (and this not at all to cast any aspersiations on Joop Zoetemelk by any means) is he probably has raced relatively clean. But he also has been a absolutely incredible supporting part of winning teams. There are those that think this sport isn't a team effort. That may be true at the bottom rungs - the amatuers, the would be's, and total posers and liars. But at the upper levels it's a team effort - from cook, to mechanic to director to domestique. Anyone that disputes that should stick to the golf or masturbating forum.

"still an impressive feat"? Despite what? Nine wins is better than one win. Nine times better.

Joop won the overall in 1980, George's best finish is 14th I believe.

its not his job to win the race. hes never been a team leader. he's the super domestique. its his job to get his captain the win and for him to finish. thats all he has ever done and thats what he is damn good at. besides, he's been on 9 tdf winning teams. thats kind of like having 9 superbowl rings isnt it? id say aside from armstrong, lemond, and levi lepheimer, he's probably the next best rider this country ever had.

I'm with you on George's role and importance, I was pointing out that Joop had won the overall, and was not just a member of the winning team.
