Euskatel saved?
https://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/2...ng-team-owner/
Don't know if anyone has posted this, but it looks like Ferrari F1 driver Fernando Alonso has purchased the license for the Euskatel squad. If this is true and he does keep the team afloat (with some rebranding), I'll be a huge fan by default because I'm a big Alonso supporter and an avid F1 follower. He's apparently been big on cycling in the offseason lately, I'd love to see him try some training rides with the pros. F1 drivers actually have somewhat similar builds to pro cyclists, with bigger shoulders and necks to fight the g-forces of cornering.

It's a topic that seems to be above the pay grades of the guys on the Addict forum in road.
Alain Prost rode with Fernando Escartin and wasted him doing one Tour stage a few years ago.
I know several IndyCar drivers and they all ride. Seriously.
It bugs the daylights out of the tri crowd that some race car driver comes in and beats up on them doing three or four events for fun. The guys I've ridden with are in awesome shape. Many of them race bikes, as well.

Alonso said he could not get things worked out with Euskatel. Said he will start his own team in 2015. Thirty riders looking for work.
He, Alonso, did not get into any details on the negotiaitons wth Euskatel.

If Euskatel goes away, it will be a lost element that can't quite be replaced.
