The entire Dauphine was exciting but the final stage took the cake. In all my years of witching bike racing I have never seen anything like it. Contador and Froome were so intent on marking each other that they let the win slip away.

Missed it thanks to NBC Sports. Every stage came on at 6:00 EST and then for the last stage they put on two hours starting at 11:00. I know I may be in the minority of not having DVR or whatever it's called but NBC effin blows for doing that.

IIRC, Contador likes to use wide range cassettes so he can stay in the big ring as long as possible. That one looks like an 11-28; he's used 11-32s.

Worked for me. I don't record either and I haven't been able to catch the 6:00 pm broadcasts. Bad time of day for me in the summer - if I get home from work by 6 then I'm out on the bike. I wish they'd show them all later in the evening.

(But I understand the frustration when they change times without notice.)

Then Contador didn't go with Nibali and his two teammates, by then he should have realized that Froome was weakened and no longer needed to be marked. Granted Contador was totally unsupported by his team, while his rivals had great help. Perhaps this will motivate Contador to be less cautious at the Tour, and will embolden not only him but other riders to attack Froome.
Contador will have a much stronger team at the tour. But even if he doesn't this was a pretty good indicator of how it might go.

Re watched the last few kms. TvG got better during the week but was still lacking. Nibali was flat all week. Contador's chase was impressive. Talansky is such a promising racer for Garmin. Froome was pretty beat up by his crash, but I still think it is worrisome that he lost so much time in one day. Great race!

I agree with you. Contador's chase was a thing of beauty to behold. At one point, towards the end, a Europcar rider (Voeckler?) came up to Contador's wheel. With a few pedal strokes, Contador dropped him like a bad habit.

Contador was relentless, he reminded me of some of the old-time riders.

Not taking anything away from Froome, but as others have remarked, he looks so ungainly on the bike. Maybe it is those long, skinny arms and legs--he doesn't look like a bike rider. (Yes, I know, he is the defending TdF winner.)

I didn't watch the post race coverage until last night.

I must hand it to Alberto, he was very gracious in defeat. I'm looking forward to the TDF and hope someone has enough of a Team behind them to Derail Sky. THe Old US Postal formula is getting tiring. The Days individual performances like Pantani, et al were a lot more fun to follow.

Oh and Froome brings back memories of Skelator except Froome can TT.
