Straggler "dropouts"

I've read some (well, one) longer write up on this bike indicating that the dropouts are a complete faff to work with. Difficult to adjust, VERY difficult with disc brakes and the close tolerances associated with those.

So, any other experience? If I ever got this frame, I'll be moving my Alfine to it, unless I throw it in the river first. How do the dropouts deal with an IGH and discs?

(I know, that's why vertical dropouts exist. Maybe I should get a Wolverine and be done with it.)

Yeah, I'm with you. I was thinking for IGH. But I guess that's what sliding drops or tensioners are for.

I have a straggler and have had zero issues. I run geared and it's never been a problem. I don't think 99% of the people complaining on the internet about these have ever owned one. It's the same as vertical when set up properly.

If I did this, I'd be running it with an Alfine. But not if it's an absolute faff to set up the disc brake, execute wheel changes, etc. Currently using a Nashbar "X" frame and a chain tensioner. Works well.

My karate monkey uses the same setup and yeah it is a bit finicky to get the wheel on and off. My trick is to use a rotor with flat spots in it like so
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...rake_rotor.jpg . Then I just have to set the caliper up so I have just enough clearance to get the wheel off when the caliper lines up with one of the flat sections of the rotor. I also run tubeless so I don't have to deal with it very often .

Doesn't the KM use track ends? (Which are utterly dumb with discs). The Straggler uses a peculiar half vertical/half horizontal slotted dropout.

Yeah your right. I even went and looked on Surly's site before making that post and still managed to get it wrong lol. Not sure what bike I looked at.

What is a faff?

I would prefer something with an adjustable dropout. Horizontal dropouts are a compromise, even with a tensioner.
