Good choices for Yepp Mini, Yepp Maxi

Hi all -
I've pretty much settled on getting a dutch-style or step-through bike to use with a Yepp Mini and later, a Yepp Maxi.
Anyone have any thoughts on the type of gearing necessary with the added weight and mass of a kid on the bike? I haven't decided yet whether to go with a 3-speed internally geared hub or a 7-speed derailleur, and I'm not sure how much difference it will make.

Also wondering if people have any preference for the rack-mounted Yepp or the seat-post mounted one for any reason.
Thanks!
