Recumbent What IS that thing?! Recumbents may be odd looking, but they have many advantages over a "wedgie" bicycle. Discuss the in's and out's recumbent lifestyle in the recumbent forum.

This is interesting.

Of course they made them that long ago. The racing version of the Velocar is THE reason why recumbents were banned by the UCI in 1934. Anyone interested in the history of recumbents should read, "Winning Forbidden."

Yes the UCI was bought off by the French bike manufactures back in '34. The English and a few others wanted to accept bents but the French didnt.

The stiff necked fools in the UCI still keep up that farce that bents are not "real" bikes. They claim that it is the racer not the bike that should determine who wins a race. However is all racers could chose the bike they want to ride, the race would still be fair. They could simply ride a bent on more or less flat areas, and ride a DF in the mountains.

Same BS going on today. E.G. the 2013 RAAM. The winner is whoever crosses the finish line first.

Interesting chain management, I liked the fat tires, drum brakes I think I could see. Looks like Gardner Martin may have fashioned the Tour Easy partially from this very early long wheel base recumbent. It looks very comfortable and heavy.
