will post some pics from the journey yesterday. i'm not feeling too bad, considering that's the longest ride i've ever done. with 50-some-odd-km winds to boot...

I was in Rol San. I like it because you order your dim sum rather than get whatever happens to be congealing on the trolley for the last hour. mmmm.... har gow.....

I ran into Paul and two other cycling buddies over at Ideal later on.

Monday or tuesday would be fine for a ride for me. Tuesday might be better actually because, maybe I can somehow get my road bike going for tuesday. Although, I have physio tuesday morning at 9:40, so I couldn't go super early... Hmm...

I've been wedging a thick screwdriver between the other crank and frame to try and get leverage but it's not moved enough for me to get it loose, and the parktool site is down with their tips! I've been using both a pedal wrench and allen key.

Edit: and yeah, I'm turning it the right way (anti-clockwise for left, IIRC - I must've got it right, as I undid the driveside - and that's a clockwise un-do, the backwards way).
If it stuck on from corrosion, first pour a kettle of boiling water over the pedal spindle/crank area. Ideally you would use 2 cheater bars in the form of 2, 1 meter length pieces of metal tubing...one over the pedal wrench and one over the crank arm. After the boiling water soak you may not need to do this, but when all else fails, resort to brute force and long leverage devices. Be aware of the possibility of taking a couple crank threads with the pedal when it does come out. You might want to use the kettle..try to break the bond...then work it back and forth a little as it comes out with some more boiling water After removal have a shop ream out the threads so you have a nice clean interface.

The cross race was fun again today. It looks like Wes' handle should now include the number seven as he is showing his consistency by again getting 7th. "Bumpy Knuckles the 7th"? Mike came in right behind I believe. Jeremy aka Darkmother had his worst race so far in 3rd, getting roughed up by a couple of young kids. Nothing but podiums so far for him. I made the points in 14th YAY! My buddy Graham won our Master 3 race but had to leave before the podium. So I got to accept his prizes for him...closest I get to an actual podium its safe to say.

I can't believe I missed 6th by 25 seconds. I need to pay more attention to who's in my category and/or watch people's race #'s. hehehe.. oh wells! Fun as always. I don't think my legs can keep up with my lungs, especially on lumpy courses.

btw. what's the consensus on the lifespan of the goopy 'packing grease' on new chains? I've been putting some triflow on there, post race, but the thing still feels more goopy/sticky than slick and lubed. Should I give it a go with the degreaser/chain cleaner? It seems like most people seem to think the new-chain-grease is a good thing, but it just seems wrong to me.

I usually clean that crap off when I put the chain on. That stuff is a total dirt magnet.

So that race ... ow. Very lumpy indeed, my hands/back were throbbing by the end of it. I found last weekend to be more of a "gasping for air" finish ... this was was just "thank god getting banged around is finally over." It seems really hard (to me at least) to maintain any good momentum through those lumpy grass fields. Out of the saddle kills me effort-wise, but sitting in the saddle it's a complete ass hammer. Oh well, I guess I need to work more on pedaling "light in the saddle." That log pile, it didn't even occur to me to ride it. Lesson learned, I guess.

That was my thought, but I also had several people make 'that stuff is made out gold' type comments as well. Oh well.. I will have at it with the degreaser sometime soon. I already gave it the post-ride hose down.

Kelso Halloween race next weekend, eh? What's that tend to be like? I seem to remember hearing something about a nasty climb/run-up.

ps. 5:00 - 6:00 on CBS is the Jeep KOM mtb race from Beaver Creek, CO.

You should at the least wipe off the outside the chain with a degreased rag. There's no reason for sticky anything to be anywhere where you can wipe off on the outside of the chain.

And that rock'n'roll lube that keith had... ****ing awesomest lube in the universe. Triflow 4tl.

P.S If anyone is interested i'm selling my UTW Flyaway bag (ballist nylon + shoulder pad), red.

oh yeah, forgot about those sandwiches for a second there, which is odd because I continued to fantasize about them through most of the rest of the day. Thanks Aunt Sara!
