Uptown at La Bicicletta is a much more gratifying shopping environment.

I preferred La Bicicletta when it was on Bloor near High Park, when Guiseppe would hang out there.
It's the staff and attitude at Duke's that irks me, not it's location.

So what are people looking for at the Bike show? I'm starting to make a list, but I'm worried I'll just start seeing stuff and saying "oh, I need that...oh, that too...

TRaffic Jammer 02-27-07 12:49 PM

Hey guys,
Just arrived back in town after working the Tour of California. Had an awesome time!

If anyone wants to hang out / meet at the Bikeshow, I'll be helping at the Midweek Cycling Club table on Friday and Sunday. We'll have a Computrainer setup so you can do 30second sprints, or flying laps, or hill climbs, etc. Should be fun like.

How is the Midweek Cycling Club? I'm thinking of doing the beginners racing series. Any thoughts?

Dumb question time. True or False:

If I wanted to use a hub/sprocket with a 42mm chainline and it's a flip-flop, and my chainring is too far out, my only options are chainring spacers or a shorter BB.

bonus- if the answer is "false" what are my other options?

Thanks! (I'm hoping to get this figured out before the bike show so I can finish my shopping list!)

moving the spacers might mean that your wheel wont sit straight in the frame. one thing you can try is moving your chainring from the outside to the inside of the spider. other than that, a shorter BB is your friend.

I highly recommend it. Went through the program myself. It's the only program of it's kind in ON, and it's weekly. Pick up skills, confidence, speed, fun. If you're at the Bikeshow come by and Ill answer any questions you might have.

Yeah, I assumed flipflop means I'd have to have equal spacers on both sides if I want to use both sides.

I can't remember which side my ring is on now... I'll have to check to see if I can tweak it or new BB here I come!

I would go with the BB. That's how you initially set up for a good chainline when building a bike. Seems like the more expensive but more permanent and proper solution.

Another quick bike maintenance question: I now have all the parts for my Ciocc road bike and when I am running the cables, is it necessary to have one of the cable-pull tools? I don't have that tool, I was just going to rely on brute strength (ha!) to get the cables tight, is this a bad idea? Thanks for any help.

Yah, screw spacers. Unless you're stuck up the creek like me. Rear hub isn't wide enough and I can't move the crank any more in towards the bike even if I got a new bb.

Sigh.

No, we have that tool at bikechain although it makes things easier, it's not 100% necessary.
