Keeping your pace, attracts wheelsuckers. WHY?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Let them buy... what? I don't get it.

Is it really so hard for some of you to use your mouth? If someone is bothering you, tell them. If you feel the guy behind you is an endangerment, you not only have the right, but the responsibility to tell them. Advocate for your own safety. If they continue, than as you would with any other harasser, report it or drop em. It's not a matter of "why should do this for them", it's a matter of you being displeased and having to adapt.

Wow! out they come. Guess they heard a sound on the bridge.

My gearing 54/42- 12/27, 53/39- 11/28. Currently riding off winter weight, building strength back up and endurance. No where near last years fitness leval, but working on it. So far his month, Peak wattage with Stages Power meter 780watts. Weight at present 208lbs. Average wattage for 13 mile ride 206 watts.

I can pass people and not speed up and keep a steady pace. I always say hi or hello. I am cordial, and if you are broken down, I will stop and assist you. I fix others flats, but I will never give up my last of two tubes or cartridges.

But sometimes you don't neccesarily want to be alone. You don't walk down the street and say hi to every single person that you see, in real life. Why then, should you welcome a complete stranger to the back of your wheel?

Yes we meet people. Yes cycling is a great equalizer! Yes friendships and riding partners can be found. But.

Would you want a new 16 year old driver, tailgating you in your brand new Ferrari? Doing 60mph! in the family minivan! No! I don't think so.

I have had wheel suckers, some cool and some asses! Some thanked me and others, 'well' didn't.

I just prefer to know who is behind me. Thats all.

When driving your car, people will follow you whether you like it or not, just like cycling. You can get all hung up about or do things that allow you more control over the situation, like slowing down or pulling over.
