Just back to the north of where RNAV took that shot, (he was facing to the south,) there is a grocery store going in, the work on the drive and entrance has the bike lane, shoulder, and some of the right hand lane taken up, forcing you out in to traffic, from a busy intersection, with a convenience store on the adjacent corner. This was probably a Sunday in RNAV's pic, because that area seldom looks like this as far as traffic is concerned. That road way is heavily traveled, but the bike lanes are in good shape, as are several of the newer road ways on our area. We are lucky about having some good roads and bike lanes around here, but we have our share of really crappy stretches, too.
Until recently there was not much in the way of planning for growth, and zoning that made any sense. It has slowly gotten better, of late, but the bike lanes are not necessarily connected to one another. The vehicle traffic is fairly tolerant about cyclist around this area, not perfect, but no big time issues with bad encounters between cyclist and drivers. Some hit and runs of cyclist have occurred, a lot of these were DUI cases, most got solved, but it took a while in some cases.
Its not heaven, but it isn't hell either. RNAV is an example of the people that keep bicycling up to date around here, he is military, attached at NAS Pensacola, Forest Sherman Field (just one of the bases around here, there are a lot of them in the NAS Pensacola Region, and around Eglin/Hurlburt Field AFB's. The military population here is huge and they have "imported" a lot of things to this southern backwater town, that probably would take several years to filter in. Not just in cycling.

I imagine Floridians are often in a hurry since they're all so close to death. I'd watch out!

Looks like you took the lane less travelled, and that it has made all the difference.
See what I did there?

No, he didn't. But you misspelled both "misspelled" and "travelled."

Busted, what a fail for me. Maybe I should try checking my own spelling instead. Mea Culpa. mea maxima culpa (if that Latin is done correctly, even)
Bill
Oh and, I most likely misspelled something in this one, also, not one of my strong suits.
What happened to Condorita (sp?), she took great pride in correcting spelling, and grammar, for years. I haven't seen her post in quite a while.
