Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Torn hammy. Recovery time?

Im so pissed! Last Friday I had a company softball tourney and pulled my hammy while rounding second. It hurt but I didnt think it was that bad since I could still run around and even lightly ride. Yesterday I hammered a quick 15 mile ride and while sitting down having a beer afterwards I saw my hammy was all purple and discolored. Apparently it means its torn. I haven't seen a doc yet since he will tell me to just rest it and give me pain pills. I plan on getting some acupuncture. Anyone have this before? Recovery time? Should I stay off the saddle for a few weeks?

Every tear is different but proper healing took mine about 8 weeks - off the bike.

It'll be years before it's somewhat normal again, and that's if you don't keep re-tweaking it. A difficult injury to truly put in the rear view mirror.

The good news is- I bet you'll be able to cycle aggressively fairly soon. Running? Not so much.

First- Go see a Doc.

Recovery time will vary greatly based on several factors including the severity of the injury and your age.
