Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Been ordering chainrings from XXCycle.com in France. Can't find a good selection in the U.S.

No muss, no fuss, never any problems. They always arrive before expect them.

For some reason that site looks sketchy

Well, they are not in the UK, but they accept Paypal. Just make sure that you are ordering a "stocked item". Non-stocked items could take longer to process and ship.

Just ordered a kit from Always Riding. Turns out that it is $70 cheaper to order a made in the US jersey/bibs combo from another continent (including shipping) than it is to get it over here. Go figure.

The French are about a decade behind when it comes to internetting. Many of them still don't trust the whole buying online thing.

I have orders at so many UK retailers I've forgotten. I'll post about the ones I've received from so far
-De Rosa: I ordered a few things direct from De Rosa. There site is pretty messed up. For example, under the branded Look Keo pedals, there are seven unlabeled options, and only one is for pedals, but you don't know which until you click on one and check your cart. They also show options for things that aren't available, such as the saddles with the hole in the middle. Still, the prices are incredible, and I'm building a De Rosa frame so I couldn't resist.
Ordered De Rosa branded Look Keo Easy pedals, Stella saddle, handlebar tape, and a bottle cage. Was a little over a hundred for it all, and shipping came out to $30! I thought that was a bit excessive, but it arrived at my house three days later. I would've preferred a slower, cheaper option as some of my other parts are a month out, but you don't get a choice. Orders over $200 get free shipping.
Everything came packed fine, except they sent me the wrong bottle cage. It wasn't even one they had on their site. I contacted them, and they told me don't worry, they'll send me the correct one, no charge. Three days later, I received not just one, but two bottle holders WITH bottles! Customer service was great to work with, they spoke perfect English, and I like they went that extra to make me happy.
-RaceViewCycles: I went with this shop for a Campagnolo Athena 11 groupset because they seemed to be the only ones that had it in stock, and as they were only about $10 more expensive, I decided to give them a try.
I placed the order 2/19/2016, used the free shipping option, and it arrived today. Well, partially. I received everything but the brakes and cassette. The receipt in the box had hand written on it 'brakes and cassette to follow.' I shot them an email, I'll see what/how long that means. Hopefully its not like the message I received from Ribble that I posted a page back, where they just have no idea when Campagnolo will send them more stuff.
Everything came in nice Campagnolo boxes and were unopened. I also learned that shifters come with all the cables you need. I ordered those separately from Ribble, so I guess I'll have an extra set.

Got some more stuff in from other shops:
-Ribble: Ordered a Stronglight A9 headset, Deda Speciale 26 handle bars, Campagnolo Ultrashift cable set, and Campagnolo skewers for my wheels. I now know that the last two things I ordered were pointless because they came with the shifters/wheels. Live and learn. When I saw the boxes say 'Original Spare Parts' I knew I had screwed up I'll see if i can return them without losing most of the cost to shipping to the UK.
I ordered on 2/21, they arrived today 3/4, so roughly two weeks in transit for the free shipping option. Everything came packed perfectly, double wrapped in bubble tape and not crammed into the box but snug. Whoever packed my box must've cut their hand because the receipt has a big bloody smear on it.
-Merlin: I ordered just a Deda RS01 seat post from them. They were the only ones who had the 27.2 mm size in stock, and ever with paying the shipping cost ($7.20) it was cheaper than US retailers.
Ordered 2/23, arrived 3/4. About the same as Ribble and Raceview at about two weeks. I chose the standard shipping with Merlin, which I think is the same shipping you would get if you met the order amount for free shipping.
Seat post was wrapped in bubble tape from the manufacturer, and Merlin wrapped in further in bubble tape and rolled it up in a large shipping bag, which was line with bubble tape.
-ProBikeKit: I ordered a set of Campagnolo Zonda wheels from them. They were the only UK site I could find that had them in stock, with decent shipping price, and they had coupons to knock the pricing down. Standard shipping was $20 for the wheels. I don't know why Ribble charges $50 for wheel deliveries. I don't think it should be that much.
The box didn't come with a receipt or anything, but that's because I'm pretty sure the wheels were never opened from the box Campagnolo sent them in. They just forwarded me the box. Still has Campagnolo tape and everything. They certainly did a great job packing it. Wheels were wrapped in foam and fit perfectly snug in the box. I took them out and examined them and they are in perfect condition. I like how they have a little tag from the final inspection on them. Classy.
Ordered them 2/19, arrived 3/4, so a little more than two weeks. It seems two weeks is the standard time, which for me is fine as my frame is still a ways out, but if you need things right away, you will have to pay for faster shipping methods.
I also heard from RaceView about the missing parts on my groupset. They were out of stock and they got them in yesterday and set them out.
I still have tires and tubes coming from TotalCycling, and my frame is coming from a site I will post about after it arrives.

Wiggle said 8 working days, that's come and gone with no package. I can't blame them, they shipped it out fast. Hopefully it isn't stuck in customs. Stuff from PBK got here way faster when I used to order from them but it's been a few years.

Last package of parts.
-Wiggle: They were the only ones who had the Rubino Pros in the size and color I wanted at a decent (ie not American) price. I also ordered some tubes because it was either that or pay for shipping, and you can always use more tubes.
I ordered on 2/23/2016, the package arrived 3/11/2016. So a few days over two weeks, which has been roughly what every other store has been shipping at. Parts came packed nicely, no complaints.
De Rosa is driving me nuts with my frame, though. I ordered through one of their certified retailers in Europe, and De Rosa told them it would take three weeks to get to them. That was about two months ago (1/19/2016). Now they are giving him the runaround and refuse to respond to him. I don't mind if they want to make it on 'Italian time,' I'm used to that now, but I wish they would've gave a more realistic estimate for when it would be finished. Hell, double their estimate, then I can be excited when they finish it early instead of just wondering where it is..

check prices and availability with Chainreaction Cycles for your next order. I've found some very good prices there, and their shipping is very fast. The last 2 orders arrived in 3 business days (free shipping over $99 or $9.99 for smaller orders).

Ordered a repro Turbo saddle and Park frame pump from Wiggle on 2 March. Arrived today the 19th so 17 days total. The box looks like it was in a war zone. It was crushed, was obviously opened up and retaped half assed with clear packing tape all over it but everything is there. I wouldn't order anything fragile from over there.

Continental GP4000S II Folding Tyre 700x25(pair) $71 and change
and some more tubes.

Ordered 3rd March, and it still says processing. They sent a mail saying the stuff is out of stock, and that they would refund. This was over a week ago I think, and no refund yet.

CRC, Wiggle and Evans have been fantastic. Ribble has issues I think.

I just got an e-mail from PBK where they say there are no duty fees on orders up to $800, free shipping on orders over $79 and free tracked shipping on orders over $300.

I've never had a problem with them but their free shipping is not the quickest.

Just ordered a groupset from Ribble. Shimano 105 5800 for $311 shipped. I made a mistake and ordered a 172.5 crank instead of a 170 so I emailed them the next day to fix it. They replied a day later and said too late, its shipped out but when I look on my account, the order is still being processed. This is my first time ordering from a UK site. Not good so far. I'll live with the 2.5mm difference. Hope nothing else goes wrong. Crossing my fingers.

Chainreaction Cycles doesn't always have the best prices, but lately they are the best at everything else(and still have close to the best prices).

Ribble is a mess now. An item I ordered on 2/25 still shows as processing, but I received it 10 days ago.

Their website is all screwed up. It says processing for weeks.

Interesting, I always see $200 thrown around. My wheelset was about $500 from them and I haven't been hit with any duty charges yet, so maybe its true. Though I always thought it wasn't the sellers choice in the matter, but whether it gets stopped at customs or something. I really don't know how it works. I know for sure I will get hit with duties and probably other fees when my frame comes through, as it's almost $2000 and probably a big box. Can't wait for that experience...
I like PBK because they don't charge shipping for wheels, unlike I think Ribble who wants to tack on an additional $50 for some reason.
Also reading this thread, I'm glad I ordered from Ribble before everything went to hell. I liked their old website look better.

The threshold for Duty Fees has recently been raised from $200 to $800. This was posted on the PBK website

[h=4]TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE GOVERNMENT'S NEW IMPORT DUTY CHANGES[/h]
As from March 10th 2016, the personal import duty threshold was increased from $200 to $800, which means you can now take advantage of the great prices we already have on PBK, safe in the knowledge you won't have to pay any additional import duty.

Wow, five days later and it's here. That was probably faster than continental ground shipping. Everything is here but it's not in the original boxes. It's all in separate baggies with a printed label. Like a food meal prep in zip locks.

An order placed on Wednesday from Evans Cycles arrived today (Monday) on the west coast. I was thinking my recent 7 days from Merlin was good. Still waiting on Wiggle at ~10 days.

If the Evans delivery hadn't been so quick I wouldn't be bothered by Wiggles pokey speed ... ultimately I wanted to save the $5'ish bucks by splitting the order so can't complain.
