I'd feel pretty low returning a road bike after 10 months and a full season of use. Could not bring myself to do it even if the store was willing to take it. Hell, if you're willing to do that you may as well just get a new one every season for just the price difference.

Thanks guys. I paid $1800 for the Fuji Altamara and about to buy the Evo Six for $2100 without a crank so $2400 total. Better components and lighter bike with better wheels as well. The Altamara had oval 327's. So for $600 more I feel that I'm getting a steal in a better bike.
I I agree that I need to ride more.
I've returned the Fuji.

Rpk,
performance has a policy for a full cash refund up to a year and after a year you can get a full store credit.
I had creaking coming from my crank and was never sold on the Blue Color. Performance states if you are not completely satisfied you can bring it back. It's their policy and not mine.

It don't matter to me, but I used to manage a Cycle Gear store after I retired. Same as PB for motorcycles. Someone would buy a $700 Alpinestars jacket or something and return it used 11 months later so he could by something else from someplace else. That would kill our sales goal. Then of course we would have to destroy the jacket or whatever because it couldn't be resold. An $1800 bike probably caused some cuss words to come out in the back room I'm sure. Never again will I work in the retail/customer service industry haha

Not really. I bought bike from downtown store but returned it to the store closest to my house.
I'm in the insurance business and it sucks when I sell a policy and after 3 months they change and go with Allstate. It happens just have to sell more.

Then what happened is the store you returned it to (but didn't sell it to you), took a $1800 hit on their sales goal that is set by corporate HQ, and the employee at the other store who originally got credit for it also took a hit on their sales goal. If his/her goal for the week is $1200 then they just got screwed. And the store you returned it to got screwed worst of all because they didn't sell it to you in the first place. So I know they were fuming after you left. Again, it doesn't matter to me, I'm just saying how it works. I've chatted with a PB employee and we traded war stories, they work the same way CG does.

I disagree Bosox.
So do I you spend $2000 grand on a bike and have broken spokes and creaking cranks then you should just keep bike and allow the large corporations to just take ur hard earned money? No Sir.
I I can assume you have never returned anything in your life.

Luckily PBS does not have sales bonuses or commissioned employees.

It's like buying a $50,000 car and 3 months in you car is smoking and they fix it, then 2 weeks after that it's leaking oil. At that point I wouldn't want the car and would want to speak with the General amor to get into another vehicle. Do you think I would care about what salesman sold me the car? No I'm looking at a $50,000 purchase that I've had problems with after a few months of driving.
Performance also has a policy that if you buy a bike for $2000 and 6months later the same bike is selling for $1500, you can go in a get $500 credit(not sure if they will give u cash) but u will get store credit.

Good luck returning your Cannondale when you are having a maintenance issue.

Buying from a private party so there is no return!
Im a consumer. I must be completed satisfied or the **** will be returned. Consumers have rights as well. I have a bike in my garage that I've had problems with and if I think like you I should just chalk it up as a loss and keep the bike just because I'm concerned about someone's commission? Really?

You had every right to return the bike, but you should have returned it to the store you purchased it from.

I have a friend who has went thru 2 sets of rims. His 535's have been in the shop for 1month. He asked to speak with the District Mgr and the kids working in the bike shop said please don't call the District Mgr. I will fix for you. He took his own money to repair rim.
Point is, the only reason he didn't take his bike back is because he loves his bike(his 1st carbon). But he has had 200% more problems than me. But we are all different. He may go thru 8 more problems, where I may only go thru 3.
If if I go to Ruth Chris and order a medium steak and they bring out a well done, guess what, it is going back to the kitchen. Don't care about the server or cook at that moment. All I know is $60 was spent on a steak and I want it cooked properly. PERIOD

But let's be honest, that isn't why you returned it. You didn't even mention those two issues until you saw you were getting heat for returning it. You just wanted a different bike that was lighter with better components. You certainly had a right to return it. It's just a matter of ethics, everyone is raised different I guess. I would have been embarrassed to return it after that amount of time, you had no problem with it, to each his own *shrug*

So because the store 5 min from my house didn't have any bikes in my size, so I drive 50 miles to downtown store to purchase my bike BUT you are saying don't take it back to the store 5 min away since that is their return policy(which states u can return at any store) you suggest again that I should load up the bike and drive it 50 miles to the store I bought it from? You sound very foolish. Wow
