Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What Is Your Saddle Height?

According to this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5Jinw6YfAU) Michael Matthews has 72cm saddle height. I find this odd because he is 1.80m. I'm 1.76m and my saddle height is 77cm. I know it's different for every rider but i think difference is too much. Do you think he prefers a lower saddle for sprinting?

I would also like to know your height and your saddle height.

Just because you are the same height, doesn't mean that your legs are the same length.

Could have short legs, knee pain, sitbone pain, flexibility issues, ect, ect. Mine is lower than it's "supposed" to be. 33 inch inseam (84cm) with a 72cm saddle height, 172.5mm cranks. Your overall height is irrelevant.

It also depends upon preferred saddle setback. Leg extension depends upon both saddle height and setback.

And cleat position. And weather you're a toe dipper or heel dropper. And a plethora of things.

You mean I can't just tell someone my height and have a bike perfectly set up for me based upon that metric alone? Does it help if I'm *really* accurate with my height measurement? I'm 5' 11.93141592654" tall.

You would need to convert that to multimeters first. Or is it cubits? I always forget.

If we go by height alone, I'm 5'10" with a 72cm saddle height. Slightly lower than the experts say it should be for a starting point with my inseam, which is about average. After converting the numbers in the OP's post, Matthews is an inch shorter than me with the same saddle height. So the only thing out of the ordinary is the OP at only 5'7" with a 77cm saddle height

5'8", 32" inseam. Saddle height 64cm. I have super tight hamstrings, any higher and my piriformis syndrome acts up.

35" (yard stick bottom end is on the pedal spindle)

between 35 and 65 I've lost an inch in Height.

other than your leg length overall height is a distraction , but do as you wish.

This is all pretty much worthless drivel without setting parameters as mentioned earlier. The numbers being bandied about are meaningless except to the poster.

What height do you adjust based on whether you're a toe dipper or heel dropper?

If you pedal toe down your saddle should be higher than it would be if you pedaled heel down.

Well when you set your saddle height you wear the shoes and cleats you're going to be riding with, they aren't all the same.
