Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yea it's impressive but I also get things from China eBay really quick too. It's a small world now.

I just ordered an Ultegra 6800 groupset, and a pair of Fulcrum wheels, from Ribble, in Jan 8, they arrived Jan 14. As far as cost, the groupset was no shipping cost, but the wheels had a flat rate $52.00 shipping charge. This seemed a little high, but the wheels were packed well, and everything got to me in the 7 days, not to bad. Their shipping chart says 6-12 days shipping time to the US, so they were on the good side of the curve.

Not so fast experience fo

r glad to see everyone having great experiences, but to balance this ...ordered wheel set paid $22 for delivery from Merlins.

01/11 ordered,
01/13 shipped
01/15 got to final shipper
01/19 arrived in US
01/21 in customs!

Kind of annoyed its in customs as order is below $200 so supposed to be customs free.

This is what mine says. Merlin says it will get to me via USPS so it was probably shipped RM.

I guess my point is that its not all order on Friday and deliver on Monday or worst case within a week. But the price is right so I'm willing to wait.

Everything goes through customs. Doesn't mean you'll get a fee.

The fee isn't the issue, its the time. @chaadster reported an item spent 9 days in customs.

But it's at least giving me time to research my how to put my bike together.

Sure that can happen, and it has nothing to do with how it was shipped or who shipped it, and everything to do with US Customs.

So the link at Merlin's website still shows the above status.

Good news. USPS just delivered the product to my front door in great condition.

Bad news. It requires a signature but luckily I was sick at home.

Look like I'm going to have to do a charge back with my bank. It's been 2 weeks and I haven't received my pedals from merlin and no tracking number. I had a bad feeling about buying from the UK should have listened to my gut.

It took me more than 2 weeks with the free shipping option to arrive. I wouldn't be so antsy about it IMO as you did choose the non-rush delivery option.

The next time I order I will probably cough up the 2/3 day delivery option as opposed to the free shipping.

Okay thanks I thought it was lost in the mail or something. I don't get why Royal Mail can't provide a tracking number though. Even USPS lowest service has tracking.

I had ordered a pair of pedal from Ribble, a day after ordering the groupset, when it hit 12 days I asked Ribble if they had some means of checking on my second order. They replied that Royal Mail sets a dollar value minimum for providing a tracking number. No idea why RM would care about the dollar value, and as said above, USPS provided tracking, across the board now. Ribble also said that RM wants 20 days before declaring a package as being lost, and a claim being filed. There wasn't any big deal about the pedals, and they were at my house the next day.

Biggest thing was my stupidity in my not ordering them with the groupset. then it would have been in that dollar figure, and other than their standard wheelset charge, no other shipping would have been charged. Lesson learned, order everything you can, regardless of how much money you actually have to spend in your budget. Forgiveness is easier to ask for than permission.

Ordered crankset from Merlin. Ordered Jan 26, arrived today in Hawaii, Feb 02. Sent via Royal Mail Int. The Royal Mail tracking had shown it in San Fran on 1/30, that was the last update until my mailman brought it today.

I'm about to order a wheelset from Merlin. I can't decide if I want to throw in the extra $42.00 to get them in three days or go cheap and just wait it out.

Where are you located. I went cheap and it took about 9 days to get here but I'm on the west coast.

Note that paying extra just guarantees it gets to the US faster. It can still sit in customers waiting for inspection.

You might want to check with Merlin about that fast shipping charge, and it it applies to a delivery to an address in the States. It may well, but I have gotten burned by this, in the dirt bike world (motocross.) If you already checked on it, or if Merlin has the addressed on their site, unless its critical to have the new wheels, I'd say wait, and channel those funds elsewhere (for bike parts, of course.)

If you need something fast, order it from inside the USA. Orders from the UK should always utilize free shipping option and be something you can wait 2 weeks for. Customs can be a ***** sometimes.

Makes sense. It will probably be March before I can build the new bike anyway with China shut down for who knows how long.

So I ordered the wheelset from Merlin along with two Conti tires. We'll see how long it takes.

BTW
I recently ordered a Tacx trainer from Bike-Discount in Germany. It took 10 working days to arrive.
I ordered a mixture of 105 and 6800 components from Ribble and it got here in 4 days.
