The TexMex place over in Camas should just put that on their menu.

So it turns out that running a downhill half-marathon wrecks my back. Two years in a row. Lesson learned: don't run the 3M Half Marathon. Which completely opens up next winter's race schedule. Hellooooooo Houston Marathon!

Planet Money had a story on the re-introduction of Hydrox cookies which had been purchased by Nabisco(?) to take them off the market due to competition with Oreos. A couple of guys managed to legally wrangle the TM from Nabisco because Nabisco had abandoned Hydrox in a sense. Have to listen to the story to understand.
Anyway, cookie connoisseurs claimed that Hydrox were superior to Oreos and weren't happy when Nabisco squashed them. Now, these guys have managed to analyze an old package of Hydrox that they bought off eBay and duplicated the recipe. Supposedly, they are available again.
It was a great podcast.

One reason sales faltered was the name. Hydrox may have been a decent name at the turn of the century (1900) but didn't play well in later years.

If you respond to the post, you get notified when someone else responds too. If you go look at that response, you get notified about the next one. If you don't look at the response, you don't get notified of the next response.
The more you look at someone else's posts and the more they look at yours, the more prominently that person's posts are displayed on your timeline. I think. My impression is that you sometimes miss some things posted by people you're not too interested in but that you reliably see stuff posted by people you have exchanges with or whose stuff you "like" (or people who are interested in your posts).
You can set your privacy settings up all different ways and the most "tight" security setting mean that people can't post to your page- ie they can't say Happy Birthday or anything to you. But of you're friends, you can each see the posts that you make publically. Likewise, if you're friends with someone and you don't like what they are saying (ie they are blowhards), you can unfriendly them or just put them into ignore mode where you don't see anything they say until you turn the ignore mode off.
I have actually possibly never unfriended someone on FB. Can't remember. But it would be rare. It's more likely that I'll refuse a FB friend request- I have to actually know you to be FB friends. I also am careful about accepting friend requests from people at work who I am above in the hierarchy. Mostly because I don't want to see some of the foolish things people do on FB and have to deal with them. Like what do I do when a receptionist calls in sick to work and then posts pictures of herself at the beach? I don't want to know. I'll be friends with plenty of work people, I just have to have confidence they won't do stupid stuff like that.
There are all types on FB. I have a sailing friend who I love to pieces, just went to his wedding recently. He's a rabid libertarian, very anti-government and posts inflammatory stuff all the time. I rarely get sucked into the debate but it's actually based in something intelligent and he's not just mouthing off. I have two friends from college who are free-lance journalists, they post links to really interesting articles. One friend is an artist and posts pretty great photos. A former intern is a dogmatically rational scientist type, he is forever posting interesting science stuff and more links to fascinating articles. A friend is an avid birder in Northern California, he posts stuff I would never think about re:birds. A classmate from vet school recently died, heard about it on FB and our class is getting together a nice donation for her two sons' college funds. Fresh baby pics from a niece. Yet another niece just bought her wedding dress. Once, we opened FB when we were in Manhattan and discovered a nephew was there as well- we met up with him & his wife & daughter at the Central Park Zoo. Likewise in Maui once and a former intern messages me that she's there too. Went to dinner with her and her new boyfriend. Plus the logistical stuff about cycling- the ride logistics and people getting to know what you do even when you're not riding with them.
Yes, you get targeted ads and learn some things about people you wished you never had (I really did not need to see that pic of a former intern on a gay cruise wearing nothing but a purple tutu). There's some ranting and a lot of stupid memes and too many pics of people's food. Sometimes I think about disconnecting from FB. But in the end, its worth it to me despite its stupidity.

Weird thing happened to me on facebook today...a random kid I went to high school with started messaging me... "hey, how've ya been? All good here, haven't heard from you in forever."
I never really talked to this kid in high school. I knew who he was but we just didn't have any classes together and kind of ran in different circles, yet our high school was small enough where you kind of knew everyone. He asked to be my friend on fb years ago. Most of his posts are right wing political or about the government taking out guns, so I just ignore for the most part.
Now he sends me this. I don't really know how to respond, so I think I'll just continue to ignore. So odd.
I really think I should probably start weeding out my friends list and just keep it to the people that I actually associate with and dump people from my past.

Only if FB thinks you want to or should see it.
If you wanna see all of some peoples' posts, add them to a list and look at the feed for that list. It will show all posts by those people and in chronological order.
If you respond to the post, you get notified when someone else responds too. If you go look at that response, you get notified about the next one. If you don't look at the response, you don't get notified of the next response.

Pretty much anything weird that happens on FB: my response is no response.
Weird messages. Weird friend requests. Weird links. Don't get suckered into any of it.
Ditto with people saying weird or inflammatory things. Even misinformation, which I generally find it hard to let stand, just let it go. No one turns to FB to learn how to do something or research what to buy, so it's just not worth getting into for the most part.
