Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In other news, today is the day I get to ride a rental bike around California for a couple hours with the groom-to-be/brother. I'm pretty excited. I probably shouldn't try to drope him.

OK, so WTH is going on?

It seems like I'm reading or hearing about another cycling fatality at least once a week lately.

It's infuriating – and very effing scary!

You could try but you'll run through a lot of cans. I'd recommend just going to an auto mechanic and asking for discarded motor oil. You really want a lot of it to spread around. Don't be shy, everyone will thank you for keeping the sidewalks fresh.

Why are these even questions?

And after the wheels purchase, remember to make another thread about whether you got a good deal, and why didn't your average speed increase?

Rode my group's ride today and got left for the buzzards at the 30 mile point (47 mi. ride). Had told them earlier not to wait if I got shelled and they didn't. (not even my wife)

Later a guy had a flat so I finished in the same time. Still, I'm getting too fat and really need to get with the program especially since we have some new lightweights showing up.

I have a press release for an Alzheimers presentation which I scanned onto a flash drive and saved as a pdf. Then I went online and converted the pdf to a docx file. But when I open it in Word, it keeps showing me the "picture tools" tab and I can't edit any of the text. Why is this happening and what do I do about it?

Last week, I made a flyer for the bus and train trip, converted it from a doc file to a pdf file then foolishly deleted or misplaced the original doc file. Yesterday, I decided to change the date of the trip, uploaded the pdf to an online converter, made it a doc file, changed the date and converted it back. Why can't I do the same thing with this file? If I convert it and make it editable, why can't I edit it? I bet I need to email her and have her email me a Word doc so I can fix it. This isn't even my project originally, I am just the most tech savvy and persistent.

You need the original .docx file. That will be the easiest way to accomplish your goal.

Yeah. The light kind of went on. If I'm reasoning this through correctly, the reason I was able to convert the other pdf to a Word file and then edit it is because it wasn't scanned in. As soon as we scanned it, it became for all intents and purposes a picture. Sorry if this seems elementary. I have, as advised, emailed the presenter for the docx file. I'm not sure what she thought we were going to do with the uneditable press release she sent us.

Exactly. I knew you would get it once you thought about it. You didn't need me to hammer it in unnecessarily. No need to apologize.

I don't know what the weather is like over there but we've been getting hit with some 90-93 degree weather - which was do-able - but now with a decent amount of humidity to boot. Ain't making it any easier.

Started at 94% and finished at 72% with temps in mid 80s.

Not as bad as Florida or Houston but bad enough.
