Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Addiction I

It's here.

16 lbs 10oz with cages, computer, pedals. That's with Ultegra, stock wheels. The Dura Ace 7850 wheels with the D.A. cluster I ordered should be here eventually (however long it takes to arrive from the UK), that will reduce the weight by another 200 grams, so with the D.A. clinchers this bike will weigh about 16 lbs. 3oz with Ultegra. With the Zipp tubuars this bike will be in the md 15's.

An upgrade to D.A. 7900 would shave another 250 grams or so, bringing the bike down into the 15.5 lb. range with clinchers.

Actually, this frame is not much lighter than the S2, which does sort of underscore my feeing that the S2 is actually lighter than advertised (I'm guessing the S2 is closer to 1000 grams than 1100). The bike felt great doing laps around Piermont Bicycle Connection (indoors on their carpet utilizing my mad Pcad bike handling skills). I'll drag it out for Nyack tomorrow for a test flight.

Looks good, except for the tall stack of spacers. Why not flip the stem up and remove some of those?

By the way, that Ultegra 6700 shifting feels BETTER than the D.A. Nice stuff.

also, no garage door, valve stems arent down or hidden, crank arms aren't at the right angle but at least you took a pic of the drivetrain side this time so its an improvement.

If that is a 56cm frame, they have been reported to come in right under 900g for the frame.

I'm sure Pcad's personal mechanic is driving over right now as we speak in the team car to adjust everything according to the 3D positioning data he had done out in CA last week...

Just pump your tires with helium & Contador has no chance of winning the TDF this year....

It's a beautiful bike as well. The Scott support here in Toronto sux or I would put them on my consideration list. I just built up an R230 with the 6700 as well and really like the group. You'll be smokin up the Mount of Doom.

Pcad, do you know if there is a difference in the actual framesets between the RC, R1, R2, etc. or is it the component specs that distinguish them from each other?

Scott marketing is rather misleading on this. The RC and R1 incorporate a lighter CF than the R2, R3, the pricier RC and R1 frames are actually about 150 grams lighter than the R2/R3 bikes. Also the R2/3 have a proprietary BB design (developed in conjunction with Shimano) that may be stiffer, brings Shimano crank arms closer to the frame. You do have to do some digging to learn this. My guess is the R2 frame is 975 grams or so vs. 830 for the RC 56cm frame. Bikes don't feel different (or so I'm told), and they are all still relatively light, but there you have it. I knew this going in.

Hey, the bike crap I sold generated $1800 of revenue, the other crap I sold here over $800 (old R/C cars, etc.), so my out of pocket for this swap was <$1000, made sense to me. New/better/lighter bike with zero miles vs. older bike with 25 THOUSAND miles on the frame and its components.

I'm not including the $800 I spent on those D.A. wheels. Look boys, this stuff is like crack, once you get going, it's hard to stop. Some of you know this.

By the way, that new Ultegra stuff is so much nicer than the older Ultegra it's a little ridiculous. I wouldn't have bought a bike with the older stuff, but the new 6700 is really schwagalicious.

I don't get it. Are you planning to sell the S2? Or was this just a way to spend those credits?
