I'm curious why the hating on the buttons over touchscreen? Setup is a pain, but how often do you need to do anything but press the power and save button after set up?
My 520 is a greasy, nasty mess after every ride with caked on sweat, no idea how touchscreen would work.
I wouldn't mind having maps, though the reality is I don't tour nor do I ride much when out of town.

I'm Italian you'd be amazed at how far the grease emanates in direction and distance from my body.
I also live in Florida - I sweat a lot. A real lot. It's like a faucet sometimes dripping off my face and nose everywhere.
Hoping tonight I get out of work a little early and can get the bike cleaned for the weekend.

Also, I will add to the conversation that I've never had issues with the touch screen on the 810, but in Phoenix, I don't see a lot of wet or cold riding.

I have the opposite problem. I don't sweat enough. Bike and GPS are dry as a bone after a ride.
Once I get the 820 (or 1000) for the road bike, I will relegate the 510 to the mtn bike. I wish they made tempered glass screen covers like they do for phones, since they soft ones are rarely very clear. It will finally be time to sell the trusty 705. Is there any mapping advantage the 820 has over the 1000?

And yeah, if I'm navigating with maps, I'm going to highly prefer touchscreen over buttons.

Although I'm having a few small problems with my 520 they're not really at the deal breaker level. I would like wifi but that's about all the 820 seems to offer that I would find useful for my style of riding. I am not a power user by any means.

Right.... Done it many times before while moving. No issue. The only time it didn't work out so well was swiping back and forth from the map page when I was on a gravel road that really required having both hands on the bars.
I don't see why so many people seem to have issues with the touchscreen. Mine has been trouble free regardless of rain, gloves, etc.
EDIT: Ah, I see your earlier post now. So because you don't enjoy the 510, it's just IMPOSSIBLE to conceive that another human could use it without difficulty?

I'll give you a deal after I pick up the 820.
I won't say I haven't had any issues with the 510. Typical spotty Garmin firmware updates can be hit or miss and lose settings and profiles. But the touchscreen hasn't been an issue.

I did as well. I also signed up for Team Performance as the points earned more than cover the yearly fee. And it should upgrade to free 2 day shipping. We'll see.

I bought it from a seller on Amazon.
I didn't bother with Performance. I did just try and there was no $50 rebate loaded in the cart, and adding tax made it more expensive than Amazon.
Honestly, I couldn't get any details from LBSs this weekend about having stock this week so I tried the Garmin site this morning and it still wasn't available for sale, so I tried amazon and a seller had 5 list for regular price, free shipping, and no tax.

It's been well over three years and Garmin hasn't come close to fixing the Garmin Edge 810 turn by turn mapping failures. Personally, I think that Garmin knows what the problem is but they are unwilling to bear the cost to fix it. Their plan seems to be one where they continue to pretend to be working on the problem until everyone moves on and it's forgotten.

I've been using the Edge 520 since it came out, buttons never bothered me and I was actually glad I didn't have to worry about a touchscreen. The 820 is #1 on my list right now because I really want better turn-by-turn and actual mapping. My lovely wife will love my 520 hand me down...

Woman make me faster
Looks like a great unit Hutu will stick to my 510 for now. It's worked flawless since day one and in fresh out of the box condition. I can't say I need those new features any way. It was the latest and greatest for such a small window I can't keep up with the pace these things go out of style anyway. I am interested in how the battery saver feature works out.

Haha, the cool thing about Garmin, the products usually work correctly for about the first week after release, then everything ****s up for about a week, then it goes back to normal until the next major firmware update, then all hell breaks loose.

I had the 520 since last Aug and the Livetrack feature was working fine until last month when it seemed to have quit for everyone with an iPhone.
