Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best deal on Sram groups now?

Now that the British go-to companies won't ship Sram groups to the US, where's the next best place to pick up a group for a decent price? I'm looking for either a Red22 or a Force22 group.

BTW, looking for 175mm GXP cranks.

Thanks in advance!

Your local bike shop might be a good place to go. They may charge a little more but they will probably instal it for free and that is worth something.

I dont know the new internet pricing now that the uk sites are dowm but i'd be surprised if it's 10-15% less than retail. Which will probably be negated after a few visits to the lbs to fix issues. I understand trying to save money but a good bike shop will save you a good amount of headaches and if you create a good relationship and become a regular I doubt you'll be paying full pop for everything.

That being said, sometimes it's hard to find a good shop.

At my nearest LBS, they give a 10% discount for being a member of the local bike club. That 10% discount gets their prices down to about what you find at the leading U.S. discount online stores. Plus, they install free of charge -- which the online stores don't do.

I appreciate the replies.

I do want to support my LBS (and they're a great shop, too), but we're hundreds of dollars apart on pricing, and they aren't including install. I was planning on doing the install myself anyways.

I guess I'm still raw that a US-based company (Sram) is selling their product at half-price everywhere else, and making US residents pay out the butt. I was hoping someone here knew of how to pick up a group at a non-US price.

Ribble seems to sell Force22 for about $615. I don't see anything about them not shipping to US.
That said, even Comp Cyclist sells for $900.. so a bit of exaggeration to say it's half price elsewhere.

Lee, do you have any contacts in the UK who could acquire the parts for you there and forward them to you?

What about eBay. It won't be as cheap as the UK stores and certainly will be more hassle, but you may be able to assemble a group pretty reasonably from unused, "take-off" parts. Say a guy got a bike with 175 mm cranks but wanted 172.5. So he takes them off and sells them for what he can get on eBay. And so forth.

They don't ship to the US anymore. You find out when you try to check out if not before.

I remember seeing this clearly indicated before though, don't see it now.. eg. (since I was looking) this is what products usually look like that they won't ship with the mention due right of the price.
