Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hey Cateye experts-my mighty 8 has gone haywire!

I flipped my stem last week, and ever since then it has had several problems-Consistency and accuracy.
Most of the time it does not read any speed whatsoever, and then on occasion it will jump up to 95 MPH or something silly like that, then down to 4 MPH, then to about where I might be for speed, and then goes back to zero. The magnet is lined up, and all that jazz, so that should not be an issue. The wheel size is selected correctly. I tried clearing out the computer, but that did not work. I am wondering if a wire got pulled or something, but that doesn't explain why it jumps speeds on occasion.
Any ideas? It is a little absurd as this comp is a month old. I have been wanting a cadence feature, so I am wondering if I should just chuck the Mighty 8 for an Astrale 8.
But in the mean time, any suggestions on what might be wrong?

Well even though you dont see it id place money on a busted wire inside the houseing of the wire. Another possible cause your picked up a nail on your magnet or some other metal debrie.un wrap your wire from around your cables etc and spin the wheel slowly while running the wire through your fingures gently to see if it flips out. If it does a good chance your broke a wire internaly. If this is the case check your warrantly against such things and take it to the bike shop. Maybe they will replace it or maybe they will refuse. If you end up having to eat the cost you could always try to repair it by rewireing (only try if your un able to get it replaced under warranty). I have had one that i broke the wire on and managed to repair and one i failed to fix for a friend. So 50 50 on repairing such damage by splicing. Both were the same comps.
