Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Its a cruel world we live in!! Can you imagine not saying hi to a fellow cyclist?Next time throw a rock at his tires if he ignores you..
Around here in Nj we have many fun fellows cycling.. For example when I was a kid I used to visit my cousin who lived in Newark.. Sometimes we'd ride our bikes a block or so from his house.. The other kids there were very friendly.. About 8 or 10 locals would cut you off, surround you, say hi and discuss what portion of your anatomy that were going to cut off if you didnt hand the bike over..Now they were what you call a fun group of guys.. Always threatened you with a big smile and a hello..

Well, bellweatherman is kind of right, you are nitpicking. Girly and insecure I don't know about, though.

I've noticed a difinite etiquette with the serious roadies the hawk faced guys that really motor along, most will say hi unless they're working hard so as they pass me at the bottom of a climb they say hi towards the middle-end they don't as they're breathing hard - also probably think I am focussed too so don't want to bother me saying morning and I have to reply when I'm gasping for air.

There were so many riders out yesterday I felt like I had to have a button controlled microchip on my bars with a Stephen Hawking-sounding "mornin" programmed in!

Hey you won! It's uncool to not acknowledge another rider (unless they are in tennis shoes on a crap bike etc, and therefore don't qualify) But it is also uncool to waive like an idiot. So the game becomes which rider can acknoweldge the other rider with the most minimal, but still perceptable gesture. A slight rising of a pinky off the hood and the subtlest nod usually works. In your case you won because he did not acknowledge you at all. However, if he did in fact make a slight nod, he would have totally schooled you.
