Question: Touching up paint on a carbon fiber frame.

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Question: Touching up paint on a carbon fiber frame.

Any problem using enamel model paints to do this? I can't see why there would but I just thought I'd ask prior to trying it.

Which is about the same chemical makeup of model paint. I say go for it, but you might consider doing a little test, maybe on the part of your carbon seatpost that is way down in your seat tube. It shouldn't do anything, but if it does, you can always cut off 1/2" of your post.

You might also consider a primer coat...but I don't really know which type would be less caustic than the paint.

/I'd actually like some advice on this as well, 'cause, as an ig'nant n00b, I had my FD inward stop misset and threw my chain onto my stays, seat tube and BB...some nice dings out of my red paint.

Thanks guys. I sent an email off to Veltec Sports and got this response this morning:

Nail paints are a good place to start for touch up paint. I don't have names of colors to give you, but try starting either with that or at a hobby shop. If you are trying to touch up to help protect, there is no need, as carbon has no ill effects from the elements.
I'll try the model paints tonight and let you know how it turns out.
