Saturday it was 75 here, went for a nice ride, first real ride of the season, felt better than I thought I would, even though I still have a little bit to go until I get my legs and lungs back. Sunday it was a bit cooler but poured and was real windy, so I hopped on the trainer in the garage. Now today it's 30 out and I'm in the garage at 7:30 this AM on the trainer watching the snow fly. That Mother Nature sure is finicky. I guess the only good thing is that when it's that cold you don't sweat buckets on the trainer, just little cups.

Yeah same here. Right now the rest of the week is in the 50's. It is crazy windy here too. I wanted to go out yesterday since it was 63, but the wind was a steady 20mph with gusts up to 33mph!! I didn't feel like getting flung off the bike.

Probably won't get much sympathy since I am in California, but this winter is lingering much longer than normal. Low 50s, overcast and windy is good weather, and rainy is bad weather. I am so tired of this rain; it's depressing. Usually we get a lot more sunshine and temps in the 60s this time of year. But of course, I am a wimp when it comes to weather. Lower than 55 and I have a hard time leaving the house. I guess I need to move back to St. Louis to harden me up, but when I lived there I didn't ride.

Holy s&%^! you're not kidding. Today we have gale-force winds, NOT fun. Turned around after about 6 miles.

I hate March sooooooo much.
It teases you here.
Last week, three rides outside....got 95 miles in.
Now, 6-8 inches of snow coming on Thursday. There goes the dry roads again. Back to the trainer in the basement cycling room.

Same thing in Wisconsin. It was nice, really nice for March, up here anyways. Probably in the 50s maybe low 60's for awhile. Unfortunatelly, I didn't get out riding and now we are supposed to get something like 5" of snow tomorrow?!?!?! I guess the bike is staying on the trainer for awhile longer.

Teasing is pretty bad. I was looking forward to the next three days until this snowstorm hit us. Tomorrow it's supposed to be 45 and close to 50 the next(hot for this time of the year). Now all of that sunny weather will be wasted melting snow, and not for Cypress to ride.

know the predominant wind direction in your area
plan a route that mitigates the headwind factor
This is how I do it: the prevailing winds are westerly here (and most other places in the US) so my route makes that a tail wind for much of the first 10 miles. Then it's a headwind for 15 miles or so - but on a bike path that has trees and berms on either side that really break the wind (can't use it when its snow covered, but that tends to be 5-10 weeks annually at most around here). Then it's a massive tail wind for 10 miles heading home (which is always great) followed by a killer headwind for part of the last 3 miles.
So out of a 30 mile ride I only hit headwinds bad for maybe half of it and that's made far more bearable by the relative wind sheltering nature of the bicycle path on my route.

I got a decent ride in yesterday, despite the wind.
The way I look at it, I am just getting a better workout. Still managed to shave 2 minutes off the ride.
I want to ride today. I have gotten used to the cold. But I am stuck at this client. I can even see my car in the parking lot with my bike on the roof.

Someone heard my cursings and the sun has been out for some time now. We got about 5 inches of snow, and it's melted into about 1 inch of slush. I might be able to ride tomorrow!
