Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

27.2 Seatpost - What size FD clamp?

I need a clamp on front derailleur and the seatpost size is 27.2. Does it follow that the FD clamp size should be a certain size because of the 27.2 measurement? Is that too logical? Please, forgive my ignorance The frame is a Pinarello Angliru btw.

Thanks.

Probably 28.6mm but sometimes 1 measurement is worth 1,000 guesses. My son's freeride bike takes a 27.2 seatpost but it also requires a 34.9 dcrailleur clamp.

Impossible to tell the FD clamp size based off the seatpost clamp... it's like asking how long the top tube is of a bike with 42cm handlebars...

More than likely 32mm... The seatpost clamp on a 27.2 post is generally 32mm, and if the seattube is of a uniform diameter (probably is on an aluminum bike like the Angliru), it would match. Measure to be sure...

Measure it if you've got the frame. If not check the manufacturers website or with your local LBS. You might even have a bolt on.

Dial calipers are your friend. Here's the one I use. $16 is hard to beat https://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=47256

I have two bike frames that use 27.2mm seatposts. The aluminum frame uses a 31.8mm FD clamp and the carbon frame uses a 34.9mm clamp.

I have a 27.2mm seat post, and it uses a 31.8mm seatpost clamp. Try checking out the website of the manufacturer of the bike, its possible they have the specs.

+1. My carbon frame takes a 31.8 with a 27.2 seat-post. I think that's a pretty common size.

+1 Same with mine.

Still, I'd measure to be certain or find out from the manufacturer.

That is an absurd comparison!

Thanks all for the replies. I checked the Pinarello site and couldn't find anything. I was guessing 32mm. Is there an easy way to measure rather than those calipers?

You can probably eyeball it with a ruler. The sizes aren't so close to one another that you couldn't distinguish it. You could also measure the circumference with say, a piece of floss, and then do a little math.
