First race.
I want to race and the next thing on the schedule for the local bike club is a 9 mile time trial. This seems like a good first race since it is a short distance and I don't have to have any group riding skills. That said any advice for getting ready for 9 mile trial on April 19th? Thanks in advance for any advice that might be offered.

Warm up really, really, really well. And time it so that your warmup ends 1-2 minutes before you hit the start. For that short of a TT, you want to be ready to go all-out from the gun.

Intervals every other day through April 14th, normal spinning rides through the 16th, day off on the 17th, short ride on the 18th with a few sprint intervals.

Thanks, what sort of intervals should I do.? So far I've just been riding so it will be new to me- but certainly willing to do it!!! Also what is the right way to warm up? When I do running races I do about a mile at an easy pace and then a few strides (short "pickups").

1-5 minute 95% effort, 10-20 minute 90% effort.
1 minute all out, 1 minute rest.
2 minute all out, 1 minute rest
3 minute most out, 1 minute rest.
ect.
On the long intervals, take a 5-10 minute rest between sets.

I have to say this because I'm morally obliged to:

Get there early (at least an hour before the start) so you have time to park, find registration, stand in line at the bathrooms, etc.
If you can get a look at the course before the race so you know what to expect, that will help.
Warm up well, come to the start in a full sweat, but don't wear yourself out doing it.
