Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

i'm really surprised that people love clif bars so much... i find them to be too meaty to eat while riding.

If it's hot and can't have them melt: Payday or Clif Peanut Butter Crunch or even a Quaker Granola (chocalte Chunk or Smores)

If I can stop and buy something, I prefer a good ole Snickers.

I find them way too dry .... and their Avalanche bar really turned me off Clif bars because of the beetles in it.

Just had a Clif bar for the first time today. It was okay, and rather nasty looking. I think I will stick to my power bars.

The "beetles" in the Clif Avalanche bar are actually coffee beans.

I liked that bar until a ride I did where I spent a couple hours cycling through some sort of beetle infestation. These flying beetles were about the size and color of coffee beans, and they got everywhere ... in my eyes, mouth, helmet, down my jersey ... it was horrible!!

I finally got through them all, and thought I'd stop for a bite to eat. I pulled out the energy bar I had with me ... a Clif Avalanche bar with coffee beans. One bite and those coffee beans reminded me SO MUCH of those clouds of beetles I nearly threw it up. I haven't been able to touch one of those bars since!

Peanut butter crunch cliff bar, but just for the convenience. My local market sells these home made fig bars, but they require a bit more work to pack for a bike ride.

Luna Bars, especially Chai Tea flavor. Yummy! But the "frosting" has a tendency to melt when it's really hot.

I make my own energy bars with oatmeal, eggs, maple syrup etc.

They're not as tasty as a cliff bar but they're not bad either. The big thing is that they do the job at a fraction of the price. I can post the recipe if anyone is interested.

Very tasty. Some of my friends prefer the 'Pablo's Choice', or whatever they're called. Those friends are wrong.
