The "beetles" in the Clif Avalanche bar are actually coffee beans.
I liked that bar until a ride I did where I spent a couple hours cycling through some sort of beetle infestation. These flying beetles were about the size and color of coffee beans, and they got everywhere ... in my eyes, mouth, helmet, down my jersey ... it was horrible!!
I finally got through them all, and thought I'd stop for a bite to eat. I pulled out the energy bar I had with me ... a Clif Avalanche bar with coffee beans. One bite and those coffee beans reminded me SO MUCH of those clouds of beetles I nearly threw it up. I haven't been able to touch one of those bars since!
