Your Memorial Day Ride, 5/28
I rode a total of 43.18 miles around southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia. The ride included a trip to Red Clay Historical Park which was a Cherokee Council Ground and the start of the Trail of Tears.
The weather was BEAUTIFUL. Sunny and warm, about 70 degrees at the start and 80 at the finish.

Where did you get to ride?

49.7 miles E to NE of B'ham on a mostly flat ride. No one buzzed us today, but still a few stoopid drivers out there. Nice warm day with a liitle haze from the GA/FL fires.

Did a moderate 40-miler with the local BF racing crowd. Very fun ride, and a good chance to meet some new BF'ers and hang out with the familiar ones. Fun times.

24 mile training ride in the foothills/short mountains of Middle Tennessee. No wind. It was my "tough loop." Fastest ride of the year by .5 mph. I actually exceeded my goal for the end of the summer.
Time to set a new goal.

35 miles on a newish route (to me) outside Santa Fe. Decent amount of climbing for first half, repaid kindly in a fast descent on the second half.
Blew a tube in the first few miles. Hadn't happened in a few months, but was still bummed. Even with a long fix, we still averaged 15mph. Probably would have been 18 otherwise. Awesome weather though!

17.8 mile ride on the Greenway. Towards the end it started to rain. Got home and it did not rain there. Cleaned bike, chain, etc. Used some DW40 on some of the metal (mostly screws) parts. Used lube for the chain.

I rode my way to the toilet. Lower intestine Virus. Blech. Nothing good coming out of that. But if I didn't have that it would have been my 40+ mile mountain ride!

We had our version of the Weekly World Championships..anybody else read that story in Bicycling mag this month? 60 miles from the west side of Jacksonville NW through mostly rural roads to Bryceville and back around. It was a hammerfest and I'm toasted now.

62 miles, starting with flats in town and up Kelly Drive, through the hilly NW section of Philly, and through the modestly rolling NW burbs. Then back.
Mother Nature spit on me a few times 4/5 of the way, inspiring me to keep my behind moving before a T-storm hit. Hardest ride of the season for me, and a reminder of how far I have to go.

Sad to say I did ZERO miles today.
I got really loaded at a party last night, and at this age you don't recover very quickly from those Epic Evenings.
I tried to push myself out the door this afternoon (when I woke up), but there's not far you can go in the Hudson Valley without encountering hills, and I just wasn't feeling like tackling any hills today.
BillyD may never drink again.

First post here on BF, after almost a year of lurking.
Returned to the bike today after 6 weeks off as a result of a severely strained right hip flexor and IT Band(suffered on a century ride to the Little 500). Went out for what was to be an easy 15 miles mostly on the Riverwalk MUP here in Louisville with my buddy who was recovering from a 13-hour MB race earlier this weekend. Parts of the Riverwalk turned out to still be slimy/muddy/wet from the last high water, and that turned out to be my downfall. Having reached the 6-mile turnaround with both wheels on the pavement, I bit it descending back onto the Riverwalk.
The Riverwalk dead-ends after a climb into a city park, so it is neccessary to descend out of the park and back onto the Riverwalk. It's not much of a hill, but the speed combined with the slightly-muddy conditions were enough to send the front tire out from under me. Amazingly, the muddy top layer caused the wreck, but I also believe it limited the amount of road rash I received. Myself, my kit, and my bike were all covered in dirt, but the only road rash is a softball sized rasberry on my right hip. My head also thumped the pavement with some velocity, but my helmet did its job.
I didn't even wipe out on the actually muddy section. Obviously, it doesn't take much in terms of lost traction to send a bike with 23s into a slide. I felt I was acting with caution when the conditions warranted, so I chalk this up to bad luck. The helmet, kit, and bike received little serious damage. I'm still trying to figure out how the hip soreness will affect my physical therapy session tomorrow. I was only cleared to ride on Friday and was hoping to return to running at the end of this week.
This was my first real "crash." Glad it wasn't in road traffic.

Took two friends out for their second-ever road ride (first was two weeks ago). Did a dead-flat ride through some pretty farm country to the West of Columbus to a little ice cream stand, then turned around and rode back. 45.2 miles in 3:27. Not setting any records, obviously, but they had a great time. I suspect they're hoked for good!

After doing strenuous yardwork most of the day I decided to take my old bike out for a slow 36 miles. It was nice.

45 miles, beautiful clear skies, lot's of goats for some reason. I think the route is about 4,200 feet of climbing, pretty typical for around here.
