Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

HTO drops Orbea?

I was in my local Hudson Trail store (good shop) and was talking to the wrench, who is a good guy. I know there have been some problems with Orbea frames (including a serious failure covered in a BF thread) so I asked him if he knew of any problems. He told me, even though he wasn't "supposed" to tell me, that they are no longer selling Orbea bikes due to "unnaceptable issues" with the frames.

When I was looking to buy an Orca frameset back in late December, I went into the HTO in Pentagon City and asked about the Orca pricing 'cause they give discounts to Sportrock members on a lot of items. The manager there said that he would get pricing info to me (I gave my email address and my phone number) never did. I tried to get back in touch with this guy a number of times regarding the Orca but no dice. In so far as I'm concerned, they never carried the Orca in the first place. I finally bought my Orca at Big Wheel in Arlington.

I only know of the one catastrophic failure that was mentioned here (a real tragedy and I hope the rider is doing better) and a minor issue with cable rub on some Orcas. Do you have links to these other "issues" of which you speak?

Sorry, I thought you meant there was a thread about an ongoing factory issue. I have tried to keep updated on Jay's condition...and really feel for him and his family. I am interested to know more about the frame failure, as I ride an '06 Orca. I hope it is an isolated issue and not a quality control issue...

Its possible HTO's problems with Orbea are something more basic and economic...dunno...

There are plenty of other Orbea dealers out there, if HTO won't carry them anymore, and there are plenty of other sweet bikes if you are loyal to HTO..

I think it all depends on which location of HTO you frequent. I know that some aren't authorized to carry Orbea. That's the case with the HTO in Tenleytown, which competes with two other shops in DC (Bike Pro Shop and Big Wheel Bikes) that carry Orbea.
