Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No clue. They do have the shorter throw of last year's Red, but this is my first time using Sram.

It's so much better than Shimano. I can't wait to ride outside.

So let me say this: you can't appreciate how hairy this bike is. If it had a penis, it could probably hammer a nail through a board.
To understand how oversized the DT, HT, and BB area is. Likewise, it's hard to picture how thin the seat stays are.

Get a trainer and you won't have to wait.

You're going to love that bike. I'm looking forward to your ride reports.

Story: I was looking at an 09 defy 2, and was about to buy it as I was pretty set on it. The guy gave me a good deal and honoured the pre Jan 1st price rise (damn the depreciating $AU). I decided aimlessly to go to one more bike shop, coincidently a giant retailer as well, and then just buy the defy 2.

I get there, had no defy 2's in store for me to give another test ride. But they had a 2008 OCR Alliance Sport in my colour and size. The sticker still said $2300, but they wanted to get rid of it so the salesman offered me $1500. But it was still out of my budget as the 09 defy 2 at $1300 was stretching it to the max. The boss comes over and decides to help me out, says for the same price he will throw in a sweet helmet, bottles and holders. What a deal I know, but I never intended to spend that much.

I went home to ponder what to do. I tell the old man about it and he gives me the $200 to get the OCR. What a lad. Any way here it is

Judging by the scuffs on the crank arm it looks like you bought it from a Jittery Joe's rider? Very nice bike.
If you ever want an Arione saddle, I'd trade you for that Regal.

CrimsonKarter....you are absolutely correct. It was Cody Stevenson's bike. I shopped all around town for a bike and couldn't pass up this beauty. She is completely different from anything on the road here. I also wanted a SRAM Group. The only thing is that he swapped out the zero gravity brakes for some FSA gossamers. I'm not worried since I'm merely 140lbs so stopping isn't an issue. By the way, I love the saddle. At first I thought it was a bit conservative but now I find it be very comfortable as well as very functional.

my first road bike

After years of junk mountain bikes and cheap hybrids, I bought my first road bike. Also because of my age and being my first road bike, I decided on a cheaper, relaxed geometry ride.

Personally, I'd rather have that Bianchi, but then again, steel has my heart.

hey there, sir--- those are kind words. I'll point you over to more pics:

here: https://forums.roadbikereview.com/sho...314426&page=13
or here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/3055658...7612364757597/

Enjoy!

BTW I'm 17 years old. I don't really need a steel, do I? --Jk jk.. but that seems to be the topic with steels--- "forgiving" "comfy" "ride like a dream". I want to do a side by side comparison to a >$2000 specialized bike someday. I'll report back.

You're 17 and that's your bike? Ugh... I hate you. I'm nearly 20 and addicted to C&V bikes. Plus, I'd almost kill to have a Bianchi like that. You're very lucky, take good care of that thing.

Never seen a SOMEL before. What's the story on that bike? Looks like a large frame. What size? What component group is that?
I assume that's a Cento Uno? What are your impressions? Sweet looking rides.

Thanks, it's a Somec, 59cm. 8 speed dura ace group harvested from a titanium Basso gap that didn't fit, with the exception of the dura ace easton seatpost. I got the frame from the guys at fyxomatosis

wiki info
The Societa Mechanica was organized by Giro d'Italia mechanic Oliviero Gallegati in the 1960s, in order to set a group of working standards. When he opened his bicycle shop in Lugo, Italy, rather than following the almost universal custom in the Italian cycle industry of naming the company after himself, he instead named it Somec, for Societa Mechanica. A very small artisanal shop, Somec makes only a few bikes a year, out of steel or aluminum.
The Somec Cavallino logo is often confused with that of Ferrari but has the horse's tail hanging down instead of held upwards, by personal agreement between the two men, according to the official story.

Built the Cento Uno with/for my roomate yesterday, still tuning it, as you can see by the uncut shifter cables. Upgraded from a Tarmac. Feels a lot more balanced and solid, looks better too . Lucky for me we are the same build, so I get to ride his bike.
