Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mike F thx.. its also a pretty nice ride (and obviously a great improvement from my son's mtb lol). fits me fine and have been great on the few 100 plus km excursions i've been in. still struggling on the roads tho and fastest average i've done is only about 30km/hr on normal terrain, hope to put in more mileage and ride more efficiently

cmtbiz tq, i think she's pretty too ) left crank arm? theres nothing there that shouldnt be, sorry the pic aint so good i took it using my phone. or maybe its the pedals? hate to admit this but i'm using basic platform pedals and have yet to upgrade to a cleat/clipless pedal. i still cant overcome my fear of falling just bcos i forgot to 'unclip' the shoes )

On your pic above, there is something wrapped around the left crank arm, just above the pedal. And don't be embarassed by 30 kph average. I can barely manage 21 kph average on most of my road rides.

Looks like the stock literature that comes on brand new crank arms.

Ok, so it's a Defy 2 with a few changes.
This is the first new bike I have purchased in 37 years. I had a limited budget to work with. I test rode multiple bikes, Some comparably equipped, some pricier, but I kept coming back to this one. I just liked the way it felt. The bike got over all good reviews; dingers were seat, tires and brakes. Took the seat off my old roadie, bought better tires, and a set of Ultegra cartridge style brake pads. Also repacked the hub bearings with Phil wood grease, and tweaked the cones. They'll coast almost as long as my old Campy record hubs now. Another thing was to remove some of the excessive badging. I know these manufacturers are proud of their products but Geez louise. And lastly, what is it with the disdain over Tiagra? Before I decided on this bike, several folks told me to only think about bikes equipped with 105's or above. Well I could not afford that next step up. And, while I am certainly no expert on all the varied componants out their, I have to say this bike shifts flawlessly.
Oh, and before anyone says anything; I forgot to remove the dork disk when I repacked the bearings.
Giant Bikes just fit like gloves.. I tested several brands/models but came back over and over to my Defy. So I got fitted for and bought my Defy and never looked back!!

Here's the one I rode today. Early 90s (I think) Colnago Sprint. Got the frame for a steal and built it up with a mix of 105 & Ultegra.

Nice bike. But despite your user name, I'm pretty sure that's a new bridge.

Love that ti, wish I had one of those with a classic dead horizontal top tube. These sloping top tubes on newer road bike designs (my Felt included) just look a bit odd to me.

Any idea of the weight in that configuration?

mmmm nope, sorry i'm not sure of the weight. if i had to guess i'd say in the 18lb range... not terribly light. i should get it weighed for real, right?

haha to me anything under 20 is light, as my Felt is sitting around 21-22 at the moment. That's just going by me standing on the bathroom digital scale, then me standing on the scale while holding the bike. Not totally accurate but it's within 1/2 to 1 lb. I'm sure.
