Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How about some Fuji pride of ownership in the face of BF snobbery. Here's my 50th birthday gift from my better half, albeit with a few upgrades.

Ultegra/Ultegra SL/105
Ritchey WCS Carbon Bars, Stem, and Seatpost
Specialized Toupe 143 Gel Saddle

Hmmm would i have gone in for it? tbh probably yes - i adore this bike its been with me everywhere whilst ive been in Sydney. It would have had to been a speedy recovery however as the Bowery is no lightweight.

That picture was taken just after id ridden accross the harbour bridge for the first time too

haha - unfortunately its a full aluminium frame (and fork) so i couldn't tell you.

I wasn't aware of carbon fibres bouyancy qualities though im sure someone would be happy to inform..... It would be interesting to know how people have found this out too - i.e. coming off into a lake for example lol

Also worth considering the air in the tyres - ive seen guys who go off jumps into lakes etc who put inner tubes in the spokes so that they float to the surface.

Shift levers still have the protective clear plastic sheet. No scratches at all! I paid $5XX. Figured another $300-500 should bring it to very good shape.
Remark: Hope the previous owner will recover fully very soon. The bike didn't mess up totally so he should be ok.

Repair finally completed. The whole project costs $900. I replaced the rear dropout, rebuilt the rear wheel with a new DT R1.2 to match the front Easton Vista, Ebay bidded a powertap CPU, straightened the original front derailleur, overlaid a new layer of handle bar tape (I preferred double layers...feel more comfortable), swapped out the Time RXS with a pair of Keo. The bike rides fantastic. Very light and responsive.

Thanks Steve. I just came in after a 32 mile ride (the first after the upgrades) with my son, who did 29 miles on a fixed gear '04 Fuji Track Pro (!!!) before cramping up. I told him it's time to get a road bike.

Anyway, the bike rides so nice. Now it's time for the owner to upgrade fitness and performance.

I bought a bunch of parts off a guy that works for an auto insurance company and he explained if one of their drivers hits a bike, they buy the guy a new bike and get his old one, They then sell it off at auction to employee's and they do whatever with the bike or parts they win the auction on....

I just wanted to update you guys. The place I got my frameset from are sending next day air a 3T Funda Pro fork, and a call tag for my recalled Wolf SL. I just wanted to recommend them to anyone else looking to purchase from them. I think they handled it in a very professional way. Mistakes happen it's how they deal with them that matters. So try them out, and purchase with confidence. https://www.artscyclery.com/

I am in no way affiliated with them, just passing on the info to fellow BF members.

Also I got my stem in today so I am even closer to having my dream bike.

Exactly. Somehow the insurance company owned the bike and auctioned it off on CL. They gave people two weeks to check out the bike and submitted an written offer. Less than 10 people bidded on it and I ended up "winning". The process was kind of exciting as nobody knew what the other offers were. I didn't ask what the next highest offer was....maybe it was only one or two hundred dollars!

Spending $900 on a salvaged bike is quite expensive indeed. You can buy a slightly used 10 sp Ultegra/Dura Ace mixed for ~$1300-$1500 in my area. I have fun putting it together though.

If you see a ridicously low price "300-500 miles always kept indoor never crash" 54cm Cervelo Soloist for sale, be cautious! It could be my work of art!

Sweet Merlin ^^. Howeeeeverrrr... how do you like those EA70 Bars? IMHO, they must have sent their R&D team over to study at the Barilla factory while the EA70s were being 'designed'. Either that, or they drew up the bend on some software program and turned out the product without any testing what-so-ever.
Anyways... sweet ride.

Thanks, The bars aren't that bad. I mean, they came stock on my first road bike and I've had em ever since. The positioning is a bit awkward in the drops, at first. But I got used to it over time and it doesn't bother me at all anymore. They're decent bars. And after dropping so much $$$ into this bike already, I couldnt justify spending 200+ for a part of the bike with which I have no problem.

I just took her for a nice 40 miler through Brooklyn and Manhattan.
