Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Or this...Is it me or is there an inordinate number of people these days driving around with small dogs in their laps? I swear I see one every week. Cell phone on side of head, tiny pooch in lap, who's gonna notice the biker stuck to the grill?

Girl in England gets 4 years for killing a woman while text-driving.

"Newcastle Crown Court heard that she had used her phone nine times during a 15-minute journey last November."

So, you hate big rigs, all of them, because of the actions of one driver? I am a tractor trailer driver, and just like any other field, there are a lot that are great, courteous drivers, and some that aren't that good, that can't get a good job because of it. And there are also your fair share of a--holes. Personally, I'll put the average tractor trailer drivers driving skills against those of the average guy behind the wheel, any day of the week. And yes, that is from the perspective of a cyclist that has been buzzed more than once by a tractor trailer.

BTW - tell your father it makes a lot more sense for him to get in touch with the drivers employer, than it does to "give the guy a hard time next time he comes through".

But it's a shame that barge and rail transport aren't put to more and better use. The trucks have almost literally clogged the US interstates. Whole transportation system/ industries need an enema at this point.

Oh yes! Dogs are the new Hollywood trend. Out here in LALA land I see people every day with dogs in their laps while driving. I have seen dogs in department stores, Home Depot, grocery stores, restaraunts, and in my orthodontist's office. (Little yappers, not service dogs) Last night I had to call the police at 2:30AM because the IDIOTS down the street put their dog outside. Whenever that dog is outside it barks non-stop. It will bark for 6-7 hours without taking more than a 30 second break. I love dogs, but I hate people that don't train theirs, or have any idea where and when it is appropriate to take a dog.

Thanks Paris Hilton!!!!

I am glad to hear that you and your Dad made it safe. Drivers of all vehicles should be more careful when they see riders on their bikes. We are no competition for cars or trucks.
