I just got a 2014 allez compact. The new claris groupset has much better shifters!! Standard in black/red except spd pedals, frame protection film for locks! And lights. Got some raceblades on order for the rain. Well happy so far, better than my hybrid. Nearly bought the secteur but the ride was too smooth, I felt a bit isolated. I need feel

That black 'S-Works' is just a stickered up Allez Race frame. The frame itself WAS the same in 2013 (except color, anodizing is NOT paint), but the fork was different. The S-Works fork is quite a bit lighter. In 2014, the jury is still out because no one has one to look at yet, but now it looks like the S-Works gets a lighter frame and still gets the better fork. Based on the spec listing, the frameset that sells for 2k may also come with a matching S-Works crankset. Again, it's just based on what's been read, not what's been witnessed.

7k is quite believable for the weight they achieved and the component level, but let's not forget that is MSRP, not retail. If I added up the receipts I have for my build... luckily I get to purchase with industry pricing.

One of the reviewers on the Specialized website said his weighed 14.5 lbs, so you'd still have to add weight to make it UCI legal. I've got less than $2k in my 2012 Allez E5 with mostly DA 7800, with about half of that the wheelset (Open Pros with Powertap rear and Ultegra front hubs), due to my being in the right place at the right time for the drivetrain parts. Then again, it weighs 19 lbs. with everything but the seat bag.

My Specialized Allez Team! It came to my boyfriend for free, and he started building it up as a commuter, when he realized it was too small for him. He gave it to me, and we converted it into a single-speed. I don't think it had any original components when we did that, but I'm not sure. I love using it as a city bike though! Perhaps those on this thread will be offended at the conversion, but I'm willing to take the heat I was originally going to paint the frame, but after reading this thread and all the love for the vintage Allezs, I'm happy I decided to stick with the original paint.
If anyone has any info on what year it might be from, let me know!

I got this bad boy used for a deal that I couldn't say no to. I pulled out the box of stuff and modded it until I ran out of pieces that I liked. It now weighs in at 18.6lbs w/pedals and cages. It has Cannondale C2 carbon seat post. Mavic Open Pro rims laced to Ultegra Hubs. SRAM Rival Shifters and derailleurs, Stock Apex Crank , and Ultegra Brakes. It even plays nice with my CAAD (Who said that they couldn't get along?). The CAAD even shares its wheels sometimes.

This is my wife's Allez from Craigslist ($380).
Don't laugh at the stem configuration--it works fine, and has been doing so for several years.

^^^^^ I almost bought that 2014 Allez Race, it is a VERY nice stiff bike. However the shop had a 2012 Allez Comp for 300 cheaper and it was good enough so I choose the 12 model. I still have time to exchange thou for the one you have, but the Benjamins are hard to part with.

I guess it's time to pop in with an updated pic of how mine is built up now. I've actually posted twice before and it just keeps changing every few years.
It's a 2013 OSBB E5 Frameset
Full DA9000 group except crank
Rotor3D+ crank
Ritchey Superlogic seatpost, stem and bars
Fizik Arione R1 saddle
Wheels are HED C2s laced with CX-Rays on T11 hubs (24/28)
Weight with pedals and 25c tires is 15.97 lbs. Without pedals for an apples to apples is 15.37lbs.
If I did a true weight weenie jobs on the wheels, sub 15s would be easy, probably wouldn't hold my 205 lbs for very long though.

Here's mine. I believe it's a 1997 steel-frame Allez Sport Triple. As far as I know it's original except for the rear wheel, seat (Specialized Riva that I added), pedals (MKS Sylvan for now), and of course tires, chain, and cassette. I believe the chainrings are original. Shimano RSX components and a 3 x 7 drivetrain.
I rode this bike to work three times this week, including today. Here's an early morning shot from a couple weeks ago.
I sure wish I could find a side-mount clamp for the Topeak Road Morph G pump. I want my second bottle cage back! Thinking about going with a top tube pump instead for that reason - this frame has a pump peg for one.

Yes, I bought the frameset by itself. For 2013 it was the same frame as the Allez Race and Allez S-Works, but the S-Works had a lighter fork. For 2014, they introduced the Smartweld SL (mine is just Smartweld) and that dropped a few more grams. The SL is only available on the Allez Expert and S-Works. The Expert still gets the same fork I have, and the S-Works still gets the lightest fork. The the Race and lower E5 models are the same Smartweld frame I have.
That said, I really prefer the all black frame to the newer models with the red highlights. No paint to damage and they are anodized inside and out, this thing should never corrode.

I just posted this recently but wanted to show it again before I ask a question that might get me voted off the Bike Forums island...but it's a serious question.
This bike looks okay from a distance, but the paint on the frame is chipped up all along the top tube, and elsewhere, and there's a dent on the top tube as well, or I might consider having it powder coated. I'm not going to do that, and I have been and will continue to use this as a commuter. I don't race or go on group rides and am not trying to impress anyone as you can tell from the platform pedals. What I am trying to do, however, is stay dry during afternoon thunderstorms that happen this time of year, and also to stay dry while rolling through sprinkler runoff in the mornings. I ride by an elementary school and today I bet there was 50 yards or more of water across the street.
Have any of you guys with older, steel-frame Allez bikes tried to mount fenders on them? If so, which ones and what sizes? Currently I'm running 700x25 tires and there looks to be enough room for some fenders under the brakes but having never installed bike fenders, I can't tell for sure.
My Allez has eyelets front and rear for fenders, so I'm guessing it's possible, but am wondering if anyone has actually done it before.
I'm not interested in clip-ons or clamp-ons or whatever they're called. I'm thinking SKS Longboards or Chromoplastics or similar - real deal, full-coverage, and to mount to the eyelets. I'd like the long coverage in front to help keep the drivetrain dry and that's why I haven't mentioned Planet Bike. Those seem too short from a lot of pictures I've seen.
The reason I'm asking here is I hate mail-ordering stuff and having it not fit/work and then having to return it. I'd like to know if anyone has any actual experience, please.
Thanks!

54cm 2013 Allez Comp. Mostly stock for now, but I'm working on it...
By the way, anyone know what stem angle I need to get so that it's completely horizontal?
