Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

+1 on those. I have a pair of the hammer ones, plus my team shorts this year are the exact same pair. I like them a lot, and I don't think they're beatable for the price.

no one likes Voler?
Those shorts are by Voler, so yes I like Voler.

I was always apprehensive about buying Assos, due to the fact of if you do, you won't buy anything else.

Somewhat sorry to say, from a financial standpoint, it is true. I now own their glove system (3 pair set),
airjack 851 and looking at the F3 bibs.

I think it was Dr. Pete who said; "if you use them, you'll never buy anything else"

Must say though, Descents Strata Areo X shorts are hard to beat.

Nalini (like a lot of manufacturers) make a wide range of products, and only some of the lower range models use the thin older style pad - some of the more expensive models have various elastic and gel type inserts. Check their website. It is awfully hard to recommend something like shorts, since everyone is different and few of us have tried many different brands (and various models within those brands). I'm very happy with deMarchi Contours and Etxe Ondos with the golden pad.

They are very stretchy so they don't become too tight around the thighs and i appreciate them not being too tight in the crotch area. They're not that expensive either and come in great team colours.

On the down side their lightweight fabric makes them not so durable compared to others but overall I like them a lot.

That old fashioned simple chamois rips apart my tender bits. Tragically those are my team shorts.

My second claim club uses really cheap Impsport kit which I actually find quite comfortable.

I go far enough back with cycling to have started out with a REAL leather chamois in wool knicks! There were some synthetic chamois around then and they have lasted quite a while, the Nalini team replica stuff I have uses a (real) synthetic chamois but the new stuff in other brands they are calling "pads" and seem to be made of a different material. The new pads are far more durable than even synthetic chamois so I'm not surprised that you have seen some wear in the Nalini chamois. Mine show some wear too but that doesn't mean they have worn out. They keep on keeping on just fine.

Sure we are all different, we have different preferences and we give different advice. That's Bike Forums for you.

Regards, Anthony

Yeah, I still recall my favorite Superwash wool shorts with leather chamois. The damn thing would be stiff after washing until you got a bit of sweat going.....those were the days!

no one mentions Bergamo?

why not. I have 3 pair of the newer assos f13 or whatever it is called and find they rub a bit too much or are a bit to thick in the chamois for any longer rides, anything over 120 odd km.

So far I have been stocking up on bergamo bibs, not sure of the model, some have red and other black chamois, they are just right for me. I am about 220 pounds (around 9-10% body fat) also.

I've bought my Nalini gear mostly from eBay although it helps to know your size first. Its classic Euro sizing and its quite stretchy.

How does assos run? I recently bought my first Giordana jersey only to realize it runs at least 2 sizes smaller than my non-italian stuff. I tried to wear it anyway, but I started losing circulation in my arms.

I really like the bib/short portion of the Giordana Forma Red. For whatever reason though, the chamois isn't working for me.

I've tried Pearl Izumi, DeMarchi (low end of the line), Assos, Nalini (made for Bianchi), and Descente. The Descente Aero-X series with the Spectra Chamois is what I settled on. Still occasionally wear a Nalini kit (historic Team Bianchi) for variety.

+1 very comfy bibs

$135 + #8.03 shipping @ https://www.prendas.co.uk/details.asp...fkid=5&ID=1778 a lot cheaper than anywhere else on line, if you don't mind waiting a few days for them to hit your door from the UK ...
