I really like my Hammer bibs, made by Voler...priced right, nice chamois, comfortable enough for a century....looks like they're out of stock until the new 2008's come in.

Louis Garneau makes great bibshorts. I have three pairs, from the almost-top to bottom of line models, and they're all really comfy.

competitive cyclist seems to think the new craft ergo bibshorts are the bee's knees...
"If you're looking for an alternative to esteemed worlds of Assos or Giordana, you need to check out the Craft Ergo. In the competition of "Best Bibs Money Can Buy", Craft has a legit contender here."

My problem with the Hammer bibs was purely aesthetic; the logo panels on each leg are huge, white, and nearly translucent. Which would be fine on a comely lass, but not with a grizzled sixty-nine year old guy like me. Aside from this they were jut fine, but I sent them back on grounds of deportment alone.

This morning I stole a pair of my boyfriend's Descente Bib Knickers and balked at the lack of padding. I typically wear Assos on longer rides, but wanted knickers today, so Descente it was. 80 miles and I was very impressed with the comfort.

I prefer Boure bib shorts. I feel cheated when I have to wear anything else. I even prefer Boure over my team issued Castelli Ypro2 bibs. I always go with the Elite Bibs because I prefer the thicker material. They are on sale this time of year too.

Santini bibshorts with the Twist Gel chamois. not insanely thick like the Descente Strata chamois or the Assos Mille and Uno chamois but provides plenty of comfort for long rides on a minimally padded saddle (Specialized Toupe).

I recently bought a pair of Hincapie bibs and I am impressed after about 12 rides. Great chamois and wide soft straps.

Actually, these bibs, which I bought on eBay, are far and away the most comfortable of any I've tried. I wound up buying two of them, and passed on the third--a decision I deeply regret. The key is the seamless, firm chamois and the stretchy straps. I'd prefer solid black, but they're worth the "bling" barbs I get from the other geezers.

I have a bunch of different brand bibs from Assos, Giordano, Hammer, Santini but my favorite are the Craft. My only complaint is the leg length is a bit on the short side for me for the appropriate waist fit. I have the winter bibs and I will always have warmers on underneath so it's no big deal. To my butt, the Craft chamois is the most comfortable.

I also prefer Assos but I the Nalini chamois are nice. The Nalini that Rapha uses in their bibs and knickers is pretty comfy and it is thin. At first I was a little surprised that I like it as I prefer the thicker mille chamois from Assos but I do also like the thinner Nalini.

I would like to try that chamois but when I tried them on the shorts were either too long on me or too small. I have pretty short thighs/legs so that is also part of why I like the mille, the shorter leg is the right length for me. All of their stuff is made so well though, like the Airjack with 4 pockets. I always carry more stuff when its cold and its so convenient to have the extra room.
The only danger I have seen with Assos gear is that I bought one piece of their gear a while back and was soon spoiled and ended up buying a lot more because it was so comfortable.
