Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You are going to LOVE your bike. I found it to be super responisve on my test ride. If I had room/money for a race only bike that wouldbe my first choice!

May the Gods of cycling smile upon you!

Give us a report after a while on how the anodized finish of the Ultegra SL wears; I'm curious to know!

Congrats on the new purchase! By the looks of it, it looks like you're more than ready to put in some serious miles! I actually just ordered my first road bike on Tuesday (CAAD9, in my sig). Now all I have to do is wait for the foot of snow we just got to melt...

Just an 07 allez double. Basically i wanted to upgrade the wheels, go to 10speed in the rear, and get different shifters as the Soras were useless in my local practice crits because i couldn't shift in the drops. But the allez is gonna stay around as my backup bike for sure.

I went for the planet x because i wanted to stay aluminum on the framed because i wanna race mostly crits this year and carbon all out bothers me when people wreck them. The planet x is a great price and so is the rival. My LBS owner built up the same combo planet x/rival and i fell in love on his. All and all it builds up into a sub$3000 with pretty decent seatpost, bar, and stem and comes in mid16lbs for a mostly alloy bike.

I would hope so. 3K for aluminum with Rival is STEEP, hope it is well south of that...

$600 for the frame, $900 for the rolfs, $700 for the rival, $450 on bars/stem, seat/seatpost, and pedals. Close enough to $3000 for me after i buy a pair of pro races and tubes for the rolfs and some new bottle cages. not really much else out there for the same money that i thought compared to the build except maybe the pedal force gb but i didn't want to wait.

its simply my preference from personal experience. i test rode a few carbon frames from a planet x tt frame to a 07 tarmac maybe not enough to make a sound judgement but thats why i stay out of carbon vs. aluminum fight. i just didn't like them.

Congratulations on all of the new toys everyone. I'm jealous, all I've ordered lately was a new pearl izumi jacket, a couple of sets of speedplay cleats, a raceface handlebar, and about $200 worth of gels, powerbars, and drink mixes.

I see, I thought you had some knowledge of materials that I wasn't aware of making carbon a superior choice.

nope, the actual best riding bike i've had was a late80's tommaso frame (columbus slx tubing). i was pretty close to ordering a custom steel frame but it wasn't worth it cost wise if i wanted to keep the weight close and also an off the shelf frame fit me pretty well.

Anticipation is the best part. Sadly, you'll have to actually ride the thing some day. Then you can come here and we'll commiserate.

FWIW, I didn't really like my 5200 as much as I thought I would for the first 5-10 rides or so....it takes a bit to get accustomed to carbon. But once you do.....

I miss my 5200
