A 2.3% grade? Sort of a riser more than a climb no?

Raising the Abyss
EDIT -- if you climbed 930' over 7.5 miles (grade = 2.35%), then I'd rate it a 1. If you climbed 1470' over 7.5 miles (grade = 3.7%), then I'd rate it a 3.

I did more vertical than that in not many more miles doing bridge repeats Sunday. So sorry to say that's not even that much by Florida standards.

Yep, 1 or 3 depending on the total elevation gain. Either way, a pleasant spin,,,

2, but this is judging by SoCal standards (hills nearly everywhere, great climbing).

that would be in the 1-2 range.
the local "big" climb in the seattle area is 1400 ft over 2.5 miles (cougar mtn), which would rate closer to a 6-7 in my book.

Those are OK. Somewhere around 7 or 8 % for 3 miles.
Depends on your scale, of course. If I'm going locally, those are rated 134021 out of 10. If I'm going nationwide, looking for a climb, per se, those might be a 5 or so.

If you're looking for a Tour de France style rating, hills with less than 1000 feet of elevation gain don't count for much. The serious climbs are 4000 feet or more in one continuous climb.

For comparison sake Sierra Road was rated a Cat 1 at ToC. I think I have this right - it is 4.4 miles, 1750 feet elevation gain at an average 9.7%. So on the 1-10 scale Cat 1 must be a 7-8, right? Making HC a 9-10? Maybe we should just use categories instead?
Confession - I live about 500 meters from one of the toughest climbs around, one I am sufficiently intimidated by that haven't tried it yet (and I climb a fair amount). Marin St. in Berkeley is over 600 feet of gain in .93 miles. It averages 13% and that includes the flat spots between blocks. the top three blocks average 25%+ on the hills (22% including the flats between blocks). I did Pacific Grade last year pretty much no problem (as those things go) in my 34/25 and that maxes at 24%. Marin just spooks me though - maybe all the manual transmission cars I have seen stuck there.

Generally these would be a part of a 50-80 mile ride, but if I want to do hill repeats only, I'll drive to these.

A: is map my ride accurate?
2: How do I post the elev. graph that it maps out?
III: It has to be more than a 1 or 3 so I need to prove it some how
Thanks
