I find that I have a lot more flats when my tires have a lot of miles on them.

I live in AZ too & I'm using tire liners in Gatorskins. If I have a bike lane, I stay as close to the left as possible (thorns love bike lanes).

I think I will revisit umd's "Is BF getting stupider" thread now...

edit: oh yeah, the original point of the thread for the OP: Gatorskins and Tuffys have fared about equally for me (which is to say pretty well). Never used slime. I would imagine the combination of two or more would be pretty bulletproff, albeit heavy.
