if you look through the previous rs2 group buy thread, you can pretty much see what all was going on with that in terms of when people started getting their frames. I think I paid in Feb of last year, and got it in april? I don't really remember. I do remember that I was one of the first to get mine in though... again, still haven't built it up, so that was kind of a waste in a way.
50+ seemed easily achievable, if I recall correctly.

Also, the bottom option for an instant buy RS2 equipped with fork, headset and a Red gruppo also sounds like a heck of a deal. Add handlebars, stem, saddle and wheels and you have a nice sub-15 lb. bike for under $3000.

the IP1 (integrated seatpost) frame looks good and reasonably light too (assuming that the weight at PF's website is with the seatpost uncut). besides poor resale value, what are the disadvantages of an integrated seatpost? any concerns about cracking/failure at the seat stay/TT junction?

"Full Carbon" would be my guess.
I think the description goes into a bit more detail on the joining and such on the group buy page.

So on and so forth.
Plus, looking at websites like cycle taiwan makes me think that there are good deals to be had all the time.

The "IP1" frame is indeed nice. I saw it up close and personal. The finish is very nice and it is light.
It is also known to us as the Axman RS5.

ISP clamps allow adjustment of about 25mm - I am guessing the ISPs were cut too short and the riders with failures tried to compensate for it by raising the ISP clamp too high.
One of the more recent (current) frame designs that we have attempts to address even this failure mode by making the ISP mast ridiculously strong. I do not expect it to fail.

Got my RS2 on April 14, I think final payment was due circa Feb 14. That was somewhere in the middle of deliveries. As another reference, the RS2 group buy hit something like 175, but that was last year, and there was only one buy going at the time.

How is the CF HT frame? I passed on it because it had the cable routing on the top of the top tube. Honestly, that design of cable routing is long in the tooth. I didn't like it in 1998 and I don't like it today.

My friends at Giant reported only one kind of failure with their ISP designs - incorrect ISP clamp installation leading to cracking of the clamp area of the ISP. Invariably these failures were caused by people mounting the ISP clamp with too little clamping area.

Ride it like you stole it
I was looking specifically for a hardtail frame. It is much stiffer than I expected and the first few rides took a lot out of me. I had to set it up much softer than my old Diamondback. The only issue I have had was that you must use a high mount from derailleur and the clamp interferes with the water bottle cage on the seat tube. What I have since found out (I am a roadie not a MTBer) is that bottles on a MTB are useless and usually get too dirty to drink from and I have since started using a camelback when MTBing, so it wasn't as big of a problem as I had once thought.

That's why I'm so happy with the Fly Ti MTB hard tail. Ti is like a giant coiled spring. Still beats you up more than a dual suspension would, but it really has a great feel off and on road, probably better than a stiffer CF hard tail frame. You can buy those Motobecane Ti MTBs pretty cheap from Bikes Direct.

So what's with the low buzz on this group buy. Are the prices not good?
I was thinking of getting the QS3 for the price, but I do like to splurge a little to get something considerably better in a the IP1, or am i just being bamboozled by the integrated seatpost and internal routing?

I was thinking the same thing....I'm interested but if it doesn't reach that magic 50ppl purchase price, no offense to PF but, I don't think its worth it.

I signed up for another RS2 in white, Shimano Dura-Ace 7900. For $2150 for everything (frame, fork, groupset etc) it seems like a very good deal seeing how most companies are selling the new Dura-Ace 7900 groupsets for over $2600+
I thought when I looked it was 20 people minimum for the group buy.

@ Corn Oil- I think they will both go 50+. If the RS2 buy was any indication, many people wait until it is definitely go, then get in.
@ ZXi- The Top Performance (or what ever they call it) cutoff was 20 people. And that did sound like a good price.

Hopefully that was quick enough!
I also hope they let me get a white/black frame. There was no designation on which colors they were offering with the deal.

Hahaha. Excellent. Just shoot them and email and ask if you could get the white one. They seem to be pretty accommodating.

I do believe this is what you need to run the campy cranks with and BB30 and they apparantly are in stock here.
