Edge/forerunner 305 HR strap
Has anyone been able to make a non Garmin coded HR strap (polar) work with the edge or forerunner 305? If so, how did you get it to work?

Nope. Can't be done. Garmin Edge/Forerunner 305 uses an ANT+ strap which broadcasts on a 2.4gHz wavelength. All Polar models use a different wavelength, except the WIND models. The WIND version use the same wavelength, but the coding is different so it won't work.
The only other straps that I know are compatible with Garmin are the coded 2.4 Powertap straps (they are completely identical except for logo). I also heard that some Timex straps will work with Garmins, but perhaps that was pre ANT+. Suunto straps are ANT+, but for some reason they don't work with Garmins either.
