Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

3 months later, I have the final piece to completing the puzzle on my new bike.

Got a KILLER deal on ebay for it. Will be a nice 75g savings!

Just picked up a vintage 39T Campy chainring for my 88 Basso Gap. It will replace the 42 giving me a 53/39 crank. Now to find a vintage 14/28 7sp freewheel.

Just got a Garmin Edge 1000 with all sensors for $479.20 + tx during Brands Cycle and Fitness 20% off sale.

I Like the higher resolution and extra features and the fact it can use both US and Russian satellites.

Just received a couple of Castelli jerseys (from online order). There was a shop selling them for $AUD50 a piece (instead of the usual $AUD129 as they were 2014 versions) so I got one last week to see how they fit and then decided to get another 2. There's no way I'd pay $129 for a single jersey but apparently $150 for 3 is fine. Now, I just have to make sure I don't get fat.

I've been looking for daytime front/rear lights (I already have good night time lights) and noticed that Performance was having a sale *and* today was an extra 20% off on the Axioms! I got the new Axiom 300 as 200 lumens isn't going to do much in the daytime. I've charged it, but I must be dumb or there is something wrong with the light as there seems to be no falshing mode, which is what I want. I also picked up a stand for the new bike. Double sale FTW!

If you send the light back you can get a Cygolite for just $5 more that puts out 250 more lumens plus it has flashing mode; see: https://www.amazon.com/Cygolite-Metro...words=cygolite

The front light must be defective; it doesn't flash. The rear light seems OK. Not super bright, but for $24, the price was right. I think I am going to return the front light; I don't think it's bright enough. But the mount on the Axiom is a "rubber band" style mount which makes it easy to move between bikes. I don't like the mount on the Cygolite Metro. It's going to squish the cables under the bar wrap.

I'm looking more for lights that I can "be seen" in the shadows rather than in sun. My ride today had miles of ride that were in the shadows. Even in the middle of the day, the sun is not very high in the sky and there are plenty of long stretches of shadows.

Picked up and Urban800 bike light. Rode home in the dark with my brother-in law on Wednesday who laughed and said my light was like having a high beam from a car on my handle bar.

I love the Cygolite mount myself. I have mine immediately left of the stem clamp. The cables coming out from under the left bar wrap pass over/in front of the clamp. It's a very solid mounting system. I bought a second mount to put on another bike, which means I can move the light between bikes and don't ever have to worry about re-aiming it every time.

The Daylight Flash mode on the Cygolite lights is awesome. Super-duper bright, but still very long on battery life in that mode.
