Zen Lunch Ride Report
Just got back from a great lunch ride....here is how the Zen moment came to be
* About 74 degrees, just perfect outside
* Collective Souls "YOUTH" on my mp3 player
* Took it easy...no burn (have been riding hard lately and have a century on Saturday)
* Climbed the local 1,000 foot hill at a brisk (13mph) but pain free pace
* After changing saddle, post, fork and stem, The fit is finally coming close to being dialed in on the bike
* Passed an old rock climbing friend and chatted briefly (she was on a custom painted cx check)
* Hit 46 mph without even pedaling on the way down
* Back to the desk in 1:10....including shower.
The only way it could have been better is if I did not have to return to work
Anyone else have a Zen moment during a lunch ride today?

If I may ask, where do you work?
I had a nice commute to work this morning but it wasn't quite Zen.

I didn't realize Tablerock was that high but I haven't climbed it. Yep, at over 3600' that's about right. Hilltop would have been a pretty quick trip.
I commute from Amity and Federal Way area. I'm Supervalu too, work at Quarry B. My main commute route from Barber down Warm Springs is shut down so I'm riding in on Boise Ave. and Parkcenter.

Mike, PM sent regarding future lunch rides.
Yeah, I think Table Rock is actually about 900 ft, but who's counting right?
I commute from the other end of the Valley (Meridian Road and Ustick).
Proximity to the hills is one of the very best benefits of working at Supervalu, I think!

Yeah, I've got a third floor cube with a window view of the river and Tablerock. Sweet!
What is that about a 15mi. commute? Mine is only 6.5 if I stretch it out down Warm Springs.
I think I'll just lunch ride with my Hardrock until I sort out my bike parking dilemma. I need to get a real mtn. bike, something with lower gears. My family has a place in the Owyhees and I would really like to ride when we head to the hills.

I am running a mtb cassette 11/32 on my cross bike with a 38 ring up front. It is no granny gear but it gets me just about anywhere I want to go (including the off road face of tablerock with some grunting).
I am assuming you don't want to park the road bike out there for security purposes, right? Have you considered parking your bike at the main bike park at the SSC building and then walking to Riverview? I park multi thousand dollar bikes there just about every day.. I just use two locks and try to park by a fancy mountain bike . Then I take the front wheel with me.

Hey a bunch of Idaho peeps! I moved East in 1987, but am hoping to make it back for a week or two this summer to visit my Dad in Caldwell. If anybody would like to discuss routes, groups, times of summer, etc. or would be interested in riding a few miles with an older gentleman (ahem, I'm 52) send me a PM!

The mtn bike would also need a front fork. The Owyhee property is really rough and rocky so a little suspension would be nice. Just a hardtail will do. I had thought about turning the current mtn bike into a cargo bike with an Xtracycle kit. I don't think I can afford a Big Dummy.
Yeah sweating the security and the bike rack mash. We have people just jam bikes in the rack and they get scratched all to hell. I wish we had staple racks, they tend to spread the bikes out better than the ribbon racks.
I wouldn't mind lugging it up to 3rd floor either. I may do that for awhile. Even though it is against policy I don't think security will have a problem as long as I use the back stair.

Thanks idcruiserman and sawtooth! Can't wait to see the old territories. My Dad has a motorhome he can park around the state that I can use as a homebase. I want to get up to McCall and maybe out to the sawtooths some.
